I would never understand why some Posters think that everyone should pronounce words the same. Doesn't it depend on which part of the Country you're from?no. There are certainly some regional colloquialisms. And different accents. But mispronunciation of a word is a different thing. There is a trend to excuse bad grammar and mispronounced words by saying they are regional differences. Your old English teacher would highly disagree I'm sure.
Regional like pocka book for pocket book and brum for broom and warsh for wash and ruf for roof, etc!!!

Someone mentioned NJ accents and the shrillness of speaking volumes -
I have noticed, especially lately, the loud screaming and shrieking, instead of simply speaking, here in NJ.
I'm not on the other side of the planet, I'm right in front of you, it's very rude. ![]()

Uh oh, I've said ekscape, too. Sorry, just rolls off the tongue. It's not because I don't know better, Lol.
I promise, I'll try to improve this horrible misstep. I hate nails on a chalkboard. Oh, you guys...

@Ronettes I'm from NJ and was and still am sick of having to repeat myself when talking. Many can't hear me. My voice sounds fine to me but I guess not to everyone else. I tell them they need a hearing aid.

My folks always say "payment" for "pavement" and I love that...how boring would it be if we all were the same and oh so proper.
@bmorechick We will be happy embracing our "unique."
As my mom used to say "How bout dem Ravens and Steelers!" Love it
@bmorechick Or as my brother would say...Stillers. 🤗
@Mombo1 The other thing, those of us from Pittsburgh tend to slur many words together. I try not to do that now but it is just a part of where I am from.
"Did you eat" becomes "J'et yet"?
My city will always be "Pixxsburgh" and I will continue to "wirsh the dishes so I cago dahntahn ta watch da Stillers." ![]()

My English teacher was so strict, if you wanted to live another day, you DID NOT mispronounce words.
Ever...

@Etoile308 wrote:Well, if the word is being mispronounced it may be a kindness for someone to mention off camera to her for future presentations. Not everyone knows the correct spelling or the correct pronunciation of all words.
If I had a nickel for every time I hear the simple word "to" mispronounced I'd be able to open my own bank branch. It's to, not ta.
But I'm not going to get my blood pressure up over it.
With internet access everywhere, there is no excuse not to know the correct pronunciation of any word! It is readily available!

Interesting how people criticize a poster for criticizing a vendor seem to think they know it all!
Spelling is important when writing.
U r sew rite!

@Mersha 🤗🤗🤗🤗. Loved your post!
Pixxsburgh will always be my home. I lived there for 40 years and always love going back to visit. A teaching position brought me to the other side of the state...otherwise I would still be there. Thank goodness my brother lives there so I can get my fix. I took my 3 little granddaughters there last year to the Science Center and other attractions. They loved it. The 9 year old even wrote a paper for school about her favorite place to visit.... Pittsburgh! I almost cried. Next summer we will go to Carnegie Museum to see the dinosaurs when the 2 youngest are a little older.
I would also like to go to Squirrel Hill for bagels. My dad would hang out there while I was at Carnegie Mellon each Saturday for art classes.
So many great memories. Nice to hear from a fellow Pittsburgher!
