I've finally come around to liking the heart feature. I even started another thread here to say so. (I used to think they were childish, too.)
So now sometimes I channel the character Jennifer Hart of "Hart to Hart" (one of those fun 80s tv shows, as I'm sure you know). Jennifer collected hearts and no one considered her childish or unsophisticated. Just the opposite. I bet she would have had a lot of fun with hearts on a board like this.

You can see the number of views by looking at the bottom left of each post under the "Report Inappropriate" link. The most recent post will have the least number of views, and the OP will show the most views since it was the first one posted.

I honestly don't mind the hearts, but I could do without the titles. Every once in a while I see someone make a mean spirited or condescending comment then notice that person is a distinguished "Valued Contributor" or "Respected Contributor" or something higher. Seems like there should be a way to demote people. 😈

Would rather see how many views on a topic again.
The view count on the new boards actually provides more information than the old boards did.
For example, as I write this your OP has 270 views which would be the total views of the thread while the last post (#13) has 20 views.
The hearts are an option that a poster can turn off if you do not want to see them.

I agree with those who like the "heart" feature. The consternation about this is really puzzling to me and I'm beginning to think it's from those who aren't users of Facebook (which has "likes"), or Twitter (with re-tweets), or Instagram (with "hearts"), or a myriad of other social media or news sites with basically the same feature.
It's only new to this website -- it's very, very old and established on others.
And on this site it has the added bonus of giving us a link to threads we've been posting on -- as others said, it's like a bookmark in our Notifications.
It's not childish and it's not a popularity contest. We're not "hearting" or "liking" the poster. When we "heart" a post we heart the post. It means we appreciate or agree with the content of the post and we don't have to quote the post and add all sorts of "ITAs" to the thread.

It would be nice if hearts could be collected and redeemed for discounts on QVC merchandise.

oh so true because I've hearted posts by those I don't really get along with normally-"hearting", imo, is all about the content of the post, not about the poster.

Are the hearts more childish than whining that a whole message board should have a feature removed because you don't like it?

If you would like to be less childish, you could hide them by altering your own settings instead of asking the forums to cater to your own preferences.
