I have never cooked a Thanksgiving meal in my life and if I ever had to host the dinner here I would go with the package meal put together by one of our local markets.

Not that I can't do it, too many hours of shopping, prep work and cooking to have it all over and done with within a few hours.

Just want to say that for everyone who purchases this, I hope you have a wonderful, peaceful, and delicious holiday dinner! And I hope that you'll share with us how everything tastes. To everyone else, try being a Snoopy, not a Lucy!

Two Thanksgivings ago, I purchased a small spiral ham and it was about $76.00.  I had to pick it up, take it home, purchase and prepare the sides, etc.  So $100 sounds like a lot, but it really isn't.  I don't know about her food, but I've purchased other products with Martha's name on them and they were excellent.

Also includes 4 pounds of side dishes (2 side dishes of 2 lbs each).

Thought to be sufficient to feed as many as 8-12 people for a holiday dinner, at a half pound of meat and perhaps a quarter pound of side dishes per person, this becomes a dinner of $10-$12 per serving.

That seems very reasonable. I don’t think I could cook a turkey and that much side dish for much less, and I’d have a lot more work. This is pretty easy to get ready and not extremely expensive.

The price is not just for the meat. It’s for the complete meal.

Total agree - sometimes paying more for the convenience is worth it to me.  Let's me focus on other things.

Of course the cost will be less if you shop for and prepare a similar meal to the TSV. Time is money, and this meal is prepared for you and shipped to your door. It's a fair deal for the many people who want to host a holiday meal and have neither the time, skill and even an adequate kitchen to prepare a meal like the TSV.

There is certainly a market for the TSV. Not for me, but for many people.

It's a good thing...

Well if you heve no space to cook a turkey breast or skill in the kitchen chances are maybe its a good idea not to be hosting a holiday

yikes!   or maybe buying some prepared meals is a good way to ease into hosting.

Re: Wow, Martha -

[ Edited ]

Just saw the presentation with Caroline. I think the price is very reasonable

so I bought one for immediate delivery and one for December delivery with 2 different combos of sides for each delivery  so that I can taste all four sides. I put the December order on auto delivery for March because it insures the price but can be cancelled.

None of the orders are for holiday serving but just for ME ! Eight servings are cheaper than take-out (think Boston Market) and no driving to pick it up.....

ETA----something just came to me....I am recovering from an ankle injury

flare-up so on Sunday, I sent someone to KFC for 2 thighs , large mashed (instant) potatoes, large gravy, individual Cole slaw, 1 little chicken sandwich

and a small coke .......$17.52 .

Comparitively MS is a much better deal.

Ii think it’s a fabulous deal.  By the time you buy all the ingredients and prepare them and try finding g a  turkey breast of this quality in any store  msybe Whole Foods or a similar store, you would be hard pressed to make this meal for $100.

Right - the four cheeses alone for the Mac & Cheese would probably be at least $25.  If you're cooking for a huge group, then it's not a good value, but if you'd like a gournmet meal for a few, I don't think it's so outrageous.  (Though I will say that our family often does free range farm to table turkeys, and to be honest, the Butterballs are always much more moist.)

Considering the cost of ingredients at the grocery store, you may be able to justify paying $25 for the mac and cheese or the spinach, but there’s no way the mashed potatoes or dressing would cost that much to make yourself.

Also, wherever you’re buying your turkey breast, it’s not going to cost $11 per pound, even if it’s organic, which this is not.

If you want to replicate this experience and save money, you should definitely buy your own turkey breast, and if you want to buy the sides, you should get the mac and cheese and spinach or just make the other sides yourself.

Yeah, absolutely, if you want to do Thanksgiving dinner economically, then shop at the grocery store and cook yourself - you aren't the target customer for this product.  I'm just saying that for people who value their time and convenience, and would like to feed a small group of people, it's not an outrageous price.  It's still way less than going out to eat.  (And If you were to buy a farm fresh BONELESS turkey breast, all the fresh herbs and fruits for the herb butter, the cherries for the stuffing and the cheeses for the mac & cheese, you'd be getting up there in cost - at least where I live anyway)

@dal23  You are not saving time or conveniencing yourself by buying this turkey breast unless you are home bound.  It comes the same way you'd buy any turkey breast in the store.  There is no justification for paying $11/pound because of a little herbed butter which you can also purchase in the store.  A family sized, 2lb package of Bob Evans mashed potatoes is under $6.  Add your own spoonful of cream cheese.  When you consider that the manufacturers who make these sides are buying the ingredients in massive bulk, each of those side dishes probably costs about $1- $2 to make.  Just make sure you get those $25 mashed potatoes today, as they'll probably be up to $30 tomorrow.

No, this is not just like any turkey breast from the store. This is a boneless breast roast. Last year I bought one at Whole Foods that I had to special order and cost almost $50. I don't mind paying a premium to not have to carve a turkey. There is no waste with this product.
