There are green small lima beans then there are the white dried ones.  We LOVE the large ones that you buy dried and we cook them with ham!

They are wonderful with some greens and cornbread on the side.

Neither of us are fans of the little green ones.   It's confusing because some people call either the green ones or the white ones butter beans.  So I'm never sure what people are talking about when it comes to lima beans.

It's weird...

I love Baby Limas either cooked (alone) with just salt, pepper, chicken broth and butter, or in a "Succotash" with Corn and Tomatoes, BUT I cannot stand them in anything else like soup, or casseroles, or salads.

Weird, huh?

@beach-mom  I found these online. I think GG also makes a buttered version. The steaming bag is inside the box.

i prefer baby lima beans. i use them in dilled basmati rice (steamed basmati rice with layers of dill and lima beans plus some butter and saffron......goes well with roasted chicken or lamb shanks.)

i also use them in maryland crab soup and beef vegetable soup.

We grew Lima beans in the garden this year.  I had hoped to get enough for a canner load but the weather had other ideas.  I got enough to freeze 3 nice sized packages.  We love them.

Going to try with a little butter and soy sauce, never heard of it before.

I usually put a little ketchup or chili sauce on them. For me, plain is rather bland. Don’t know if I’ve seen in freezer section, will have to look.

Nothing to do with Lima beans, but I did buy some frozen snow peas. They were a little mushy. Wanted for a stir fry, ended up putting on paper towel to dry them out. Worked okay but doubt I’ll buy again. Fresh is best for crunch in stir fry IMO.

@Sooner

In this house, if I say Lima beans, I mean the small green ones.  If I say butter beans, I mean the large white ones.

I'm the only one here who eats both; my husband will eat the white ones.   I've never seen my girls eat either one, but they do eat other dried beans.

@RedTop We share a lot of the same culture!  That's the way I'd known them until I spent time in the south and they were calling those little green things butter beans in some locals.

And my response was "You LIKE those?"  Woman EmbarassedWoman Very HappyWoman Tongue

I DO LOVE those big white ones!

I fix a 2 lb bag of the large white dry lima beans at least 3-4 times a month. I fix them with butter, and cumin. Bake a pone of cornbread and a pot of spinach on the side.
