@BirkiLady wrote:@SurferWife That's what I also have. Sorry you've had so much trouble. We bought stainless appliances shortly after purchasing this home in 1988 and it is the only one still working (and looking) perfectly. All others (dishwasher, microwave, wine cooler and refrigerator) have been replaced.
Those newer drop-ins are expensive and impossible to repair. Not a wise choice for a rental. Perhaps it is time for a new countertop and a less expensive free standing oven/stove model? Hope you are able to convince your landlord of the very basic need for an accurate appliance!
Our landlord has been real good about replacing things when they break & it has been an upgrade from what was there when we moved in. All the appliances were/are on their last leg since we moved in. He immediately replaced the washer/dryer within a month of us moving in. Just this year he replaced our refrigerator...a nice Samsung. Now it's the stove/oven & he has already bought it. The contractor has to cut a little of the granite countertop to get it to fit, as the newer models are a bit longer than the older ones.. This floor plan wouldn't allow for a free-standing oven/stove, nor would I want one. The only thing that won't be new is the dishwasher. It works like a champ, but aesthetically it has seen better days. He has already said he'll replace it if it starts to go out. All of our appliances (prior to new ones) have been here since the home was built in 1990.

I buy a new one only if I have to. Shopping for new appliances is a chore.
My favorite style is a stand alone stove, which is what we have now. It's not fancy, but it's big and it's reliable (so far!). It's 4 years old and replaced a 20 year old model.
I wasn't entirely happy with the wall ovens that came with two of our homes. They were smaller (due to the times; today you can get full size wall ovens). I was never comfortable pulling heavy pots or roasting pans out of a wall oven.

I've never purchased one, but I need to. Mine is roughly 40 years old, and while the oven does eventually heat up, it takes roughly 30 minutes to get it to 300 degrees. I've checked into replacing the heating element, but have been told by 3 different sources that the part is no longer in production. IF they could source it somewhere, it'd be roughly just $100 or so more to replace the entire range itself.
I'm not much of a cook (I absolutely despise cooking) and rarely use the oven, so I'm hoping to hold out until spring. The broiler still works just fine, as does the cooktop. I have a microwave, insta-pot and grill as well, so I'm doing just fine.

We did a total kitchen gut and remodel in 1999. My Bosch wall oven and dishwasher (in white) still work perfectly (and they get a lot of use). My counter depth side by side refridgerator now lives in a friend's garage and still works perfectly. The Samsung French Door refrigerator that I bought to replace it (I hated the side by side compartments being so narrow) was very expensive and died after 5 years. I replaced it about 5 years ago now with an LG French Door refrigerator. Stainless steel and works great.
My original drop in cooktop was a Jenn-Air down draft with electric drop in cooking units that could be swapped out with other components in the system. It worked just fine, but I wanted to replace it with a gas/propane cooktop. Last year I did replace it with a stainless steel Jenn-Air down draft propane (no natural gas where I live) cooktop. I love it !! My husband preferred the electric smoothtop, but he's finally comfortable with the new one.
I love to cook and will replace my remaining white dishwasher and wall oven when they stop working with something wonderful I'm sure. It seems that new dishwashers just aren't as well made as the older ones. I also don't hook up water or ice makers in our freezer as we're on well water. I just buy a bag of cubed ice as needed and dump it in the ice bin. It's just my husband and I at home and we don't go through ice very fast. It was a little difficult to find a fridge I wanted without an "in the door" ice/water dispenser.

Hubby and I are terrible... we have the same stove that came with the house built in 1980. We only have two electric burners that work that we can use... out of four.. It is not the coil burner that is not working ... it is the wiring to the burner that is shot. The oven works but I only use it maybe once a year IF THAT. Maybe to roast a turkey. We mostly use one top burner only so we really see no reason to buy a whole new stove.
I guess that is why we just have this really ugly stove. We are too lazy to replace it. It is just an inconvience to go out and look at them... have someone have to come into the house etc etc etc. We can afford to replace it... just are too lazy to replace it. LOL!

Twice. Our first one came with the house (as did other appliances) About 9 years ago, we purchased a new, bigger range.

I've never bought one. I've moved so many times in my adult life, I've never had to. Replaced a washing machine once though.

Its been said before that "they don't build them like they used to". Over my adult life I've replaced many major appliances. In my current home ( lived here 13 years) I've replaced the following: washer, dryer ( will need to do that again soon), dishwasher, refrigerator (2x)stove, microwave.
