@ECBG  If your current range works, keep it, even if you don't use it very much. The newer kitchen appliances don't last nearly as long as the older ones. Also, as another poster mentioned, it takes a long time to get appliances now. To paraphrase, if it ain't broke, don't replace it.

@Eileen in Virginia Honey. I use the oven heavily at holiday time making pound cakes for gifts.

Anything we baked had to be timed less than recommend because it cooked so hot. Every single baked cake either hummed in the middle or pound cakes boiled up and over!

What good is a useless tool?

@ECBG  Yikes, you really do need to replace it! My advice would be to check appliance dealers for ranges that they have in stock. Otherwise, you might not take delivery on an order in time for the holidays. I've got a friend who ordered a new refrigerator from a local store in July that was supposed to be delivered on September 9th. Not only was it not delivered, but they're telling her she may not get it by Thanksgiving now. She's checked with Home Depot and Lowes and they're telling her they're having the same problem getting stock. Good luck!

My aunt has been looking for an extra freezer for months to put in her garage. No one, absolutely no one had stock in the configuration/size that she wanted. Two weeks ago she was running some errands and said why not  run into Sears. I personally thought all of the sears stores had been closed but this one was still open. She found two in stock in the size that she wanted. She immediately paid for it so that they would hold it for her, and my brother went by a few days back with his truck to pick it up for her.

Re: How Often Do You Buy A Range?

My current Stove is 21 years old and came with the house when it was built.  I definitely  need to replace it. The burners on top do not come on by themselves, which I use daily, so whenever I use them I have to turn on the gas and light it with a log lighter. I am so over that. I have had a repair person out twice, and both times the stupid thing turned on.

The oven is also not self cleaning, I have stains that I just cannot get off no matter how hard I scrub. I had originally planned on replacing both the Stove and the Dishwasher, which is the same age as the oven at the same time this December. I ended up replacing my floors instead (happy dance) a few months back. Therefore, I will be holding of till probably mid next year before replacing those two appliances. Once I do I want the Stove and the Dishwasher to be in the same color as my refrigerator and built in microwave which is Black Stainless Steel.
