Woman Happy

I saw something on the Internet today about Ina Garten's dishwasher--pictures of it garnered comments about her putting good knives and wooden handled spatulas in, and running it half full.

My kind of girl!  I put all sorts of things in mine (no knives because most are too big to go in there).  I also run it every day and if it isn't crammed full always put the sink racks in.

She also said she's been known to run a very small load, then later put in some more dishes and run it again! LOL!!

That's me.  I run it every day because I don't want nasty stuff sitting there.  It may be a quick wash, but it runs--and yes, I've been known to start loading it the next morning without unloading!  Now I will say that did happen more when I worked.

How about you?  Do you follow "the rules" of dishwashing?  Or are you a rebel?  Woman Wink

Re: Dishwashers, Ina and Me!

I run my dishwasher an average of twice a day with at least four days a week of running it three times. Everything goes in mine. I have All-Clad pans, Wustoff knives, and wooden utensils. I bought my All-Clad before I was married 22 years ago and it has survived just fine.

I put everything in the dishwasher. Big knives go on top rack laying down as do all spatulas and cooking utensils. Pots and pans also.

I hate unloading the dishwasher so much that I never use it.  It's just me and little cooking so I just wash things by hand.

I don't use my dishwasher.  There's no need - I only have dirty dishes for 1-2 people.  I'd rather wash them by hand in the sink.  It would be a waste to use the dishwasher (electricity and water).

I have put wooden spoons in mine before, but not my good knives. Guess I pretty much follow the rules, I don't run half loads. Usually I run mine every other day.

Re: Dishwashers, Ina and Me!

Rebel I guess.  It's just me (human) so I run the DW every Wednesday & Sunday w/o fail.  I don't care if I have only a fork in there, I run the DW.

I throw my dish rag, nylon squishy thingie & sponge in the DW on Sundays.

I throw the vacuum, auto litterbox & french fry filters in my DW when needed.

The above on "air" dry only

Tall utensils go in the top rack or inbetween the slats on the bottom.

Pots & pans go in top & bottom (air dry only).

Needs washing....in the DW it goes!!!!

Even with two people if you are at home like us you use a lot of glasses, cups, plates, spoons, forks, a pan or two, etc.

If you have several people you run it every day, why not if you are one or two?

Re: Dishwashers, Ina and Me!

I used to put everything in the dishwasher. Until I ruined a beautiful Japanese wooden cutting board. The dishwasher messed up the finish of the wood. I also messed up my carbon steel knives too.

But I like everything, except pots and pans, to go in the dishwasher. I like the Sani Cycle. No bacteria or virus can survive all that steam.

My cousin had an additional dishwasher added to her remodeled kitchen. So there would always be a dishwasher with clean dishes. It was her husband's idea. Since the unloading of the dishwasher somehow became his job.
