Re: Help-Remove Ink from Plastic Table

@x Hedge That is fine.  I didn't get to the store to buy anything.  I sent to see grandma and didn't get in until late.  I'll hit the store tomorrow since I ran errands today until late and the weather cut things short anyway.  I've already got acetone and alcohol on my list, so that is good.  I could use some goo-gone anyway for work.  We get sticky things from time to time, so a small bottle would be good to have.

@Tigriss

At school we use suscreen, lotion or spray,  to remove permanent marker from white boards. It works like magic, but I'm not sure if it will work as well on porous plastic. It's worth a try, though.

Re: Help-Remove Ink from Plastic Table

@house_cat That is a great thing to know! We had someone write all over one of our marker boards with permanent marker. They made a complex grid and all, but it wouldn't come off. We went over it with an expo marker and when it dried it all came off like it was never there. But using sunscreen, lotion or WHAT KIND OF SPRAY????? I've got lotion, just basic hand lotion, so that would be easy. Sunscreen isn't common at work, but lotion is. I'm not sure what kind of spray it is. Our boards are not the nice enamel on metal ones or porcelain on metal, but the shower board kind, but better than basic shower board. We are trying to keep them new and shiny forever! We had chalk boards when I got there. We still have them because that was the most modern piece of technology we had next to electricity and running water! Their schools were very basic and book based. Now we are running technology, chromebooks, very limited internet, interactive projectors, and a 57" interactive touch screen TV board that interacts with the computer like a smart board. We have really came a long way. We are really doing better than we were. Educating inmates is the only way to really reduce the recidivism rate of most of them since they are mainly nuisance crimes stemming from nothing constructive with their time We are trying to keep them from being foolish with their time again. There is an 85% less likely chance of coming back to prison once they get their GED. It really does make that much of a difference to them coming back to prison. A basic education giving them something else with their time that is meaningful makes a big difference. Some will come back, but most stay successfully home.

@Tigriss

Lotion won't work - it needs to be sunscreen lotion or sunscreen spray. Smear the marks liberally with it and let it sit for a minute or two.  If it's really stubborn and dried on, you might have to treat it twice.

@Tigriss

I applaud you for what you are doing.  I agree that education and rehabilitation is imperative.

Re: Help-Remove Ink from Plastic Table

I haven't tried it but given your ability to use limited items, I wonder if hand sanitizer set on there for awhile to soak would work??  Possibly the alcohol in it would work like the hairspray.

Re: Help-Remove Ink from Plastic Table

@house_cat  I get it now.  Sunscreen lotion or sunscreen spray.....If the others don't work I'll try it.  THanks!

I really like what I do, so now I'm happy with it.

@In-x-s I didn't even think of the sanitizer, but ours isn't mainly alcohol due to the likelihood of people trying to drink it to get drunk. The real stuff is what desperate people will use when they can't get the real thing.

@Tigriss Wonder if Clorox would work. When I changed ink cartridges in our printer I had ink on my fingers. I tried several things before trying the Clorox. I just dipped my fingers in a little & the ink came right off. It's worth a try.

Re: Help-Remove Ink from Plastic Table

I have done that before. I know alcohol removes in from clothes, but it didn't remove it from my skin, but bleach did. I will have to bring some bleach from home to try as well with the ammonia and alcohol and acetone. I won't mix them, but try them individually with time to dry in between.
