I find myself having to buy yet another Pyrex measuring cup because I can't read the red measurement lines on the outside - they have flaked off. I don't remember my mother EVER replacing hers. I wish I'd kept it! Is it just because they're not made in the US any longer - or are they? Am I doing something wrong?

I love my Pyrex measuring cups.

Do you ever put them in the microwave? Maybe that has something to do with it.

Could be too, that years ago, the paint they used was better, but maybe not so good for us?{#emotions_dlg.unsure}

I just got rid of my original from 1982ish that I bought when I first moved out on my own. The lines were all gone, but it was good for 2 cup measuring as I could still see that one. Everything else was a guess.

They are cheap at Marshalls/HomeGoods/TJ Maxx. I'm not worried about having to replace it in another 10 years. I put mine in the dishwasher, top rack.

haven't had that problem with mine but I bought one at Goodwill that I know was pretty old and all the red lettering and marks are still intact....I think the older ones are better.

I have two, a 4 cup and 1 cup they are both at least 29 years old. No flaking on them. I don't think it's you.

I have some of the older Pyrex ones - from when they had full handles (for some reason I find the open handles unappealing). Anyway, mine are practically antique at this point and are all fully labeled still. BUT, I don't use them in the microwave and I don't put them in the dishwasher.

It might be the dishwasher, if you do that, because that will eventually destroy the writing. I have some old Tupperware ones (the set that has a 1c and 2c, and the 1c fits into the top of the 2c) and they are pretty bad. I used to put them in the dishwasher and I think that's why. Too bad I cannot find those anymore because I'd buy a new set and not put them in the dishwasher so they'd last better. I use them a lot, and really like them.

I use the Oxo cups with the measurements inside. Mine is at least fifteen years old. I prefer not to use glass.

I wonder if the real old ones used paint with lead in it? I put mine in the microwave and in the dishwasher all the time, but mine is only about 5 years old. Paint still on.

Mine are 50 years old,one is 70 yrs old, neither have paint on them. The lettering is raised. They are made in the USA, but might have more lead in them than we use now a days, LOL! I never put them in microwave. I rarely use microwave come to think of it! I love them. Many of my baking supplies are antique, like bowls, meauring cups, measuring spoons, sieve, even flatware like Bakelite.
