Re: Feedback regarding electric stovetops, please.

I've always felt that my ideal stove would be dual-fuel. I'd love to have a gas stove with an electric oven. I have a glass-top and while I like it, I don't like trying to clean the thing. (Actually, my dream has always been to have a BlueStar. In red. They are just simply gorgeous.)

I have a GE Profile with a double-oven. I'll never, ever go back to a single-oven range. For holidays and large family dinners, I usually have a ham or turkey in the Nesco electric roaster with side dishes in both ovens. It just works so well for me. I can't ever see me going back to just one oven.

And yes, it is convection. I actually use the convection to roast meats and such, also for when I'm cooking squash and foods like that. It bakes quickly, compared to a regular oven. I don't use it for baking cookies, breads, etc. But yes, it always does have the fan running.

It also has a dough-proofer. We keep our house rather cool in the winter, so this works well to proof my yeast doughs.

When DH and I first married, I was 16 and couldn't boil water. My mom always had a gas stove and that's what I had. Well, due to Hurricane Agnes in 1972, we had to move in temporarily with DH's parents. She had an electric stove and I simply wasn't used to it. One night, after we had cleaned up after dinner, I carelessly tossed a dish towel on the stove; I didn't realize that it stayed hot! And, of course, it caught on fire. Thankfully we were right there in the kitchen and saw it immediately. But I still felt terrible. And that has stayed with me to this day.
