I have never seen or had (that I know of) a gray corned beef. I have cooked them in the slow cooker and in the pressure cooker and I will never use anything but the pressure cooker anymore. Thanks for the tip about TJ's corned beef @Diann. I ill add that to my list. Next week is my monthly trip to Trader Joe's and Costco and I always keep an extra in the freezer for easy meals.

I have cooked corned beef in the crock pot, in the pressure cooker and in the oven---have to say that I prefer the crock pot over the rest. Never been a funky color tho---I also try to cut alot of the the fat off, so the rest of the stuff isn't covered in it ----just me. I also don't cook it with all the veggies but wait till about 2 hours before its done to do that. Way less soggy that way.

the best way, hands down, to cook corned beef...Drain it, throw out the packet..Wrap the meat in heavy duty foil, place on baking sheet .place in 300 degree oven..bake 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hr per pound..
if you like, when it is done, glaze with a mix of apricot jam, horseradish and mustard and broil for a few minutes..
it it will be the most tender and least shrunken corned beef EVER..
Wehave done this for 40 years, and swear by it...
CORRECTION!!!- Temp should read 275 degres NOT 300! sorry!

I am always looking for a different way to make corned beef and yours sounds delicious. I especially like your glaze combo. How do you prepare the carrots, potatoes and cabbage if you do?

@MothertruckerThanks for that recipe. I like cabbage and I like corned beef but I DETEST boiled dinner! I just might give this a try!

@Mothertrucker, thank you. I'm gonna try your recipe. Do you add carrots and cabbage? If so, at the same time as the meat?
Thanx again!

I guess it's what you're brought up on, @Desertdi. It's just missing the extra additive. Perhaps it's a New England thing.
@eddyandme Well..........not exactly! My ma cooked everything until she was sure it was dead......(!) (And that was a pretty long time.)

@violannwrote:I’m expected to celebrate the holiday with a corned beef and cabbage dinner, but seeing as how I’ll be baby sitting all week I’m looking for SUPER EASY. I think I remember, her baking the meat (maybe braising it) but I can’t remember if that was good OR easy.
OPINIONS?
I alway bake the corned beef with a little water in the bottom of the baking dish.
