Re: Cookies You Loved That Aren't Available Now

Mom used to buy a packaged store brand sugar cookie from Kroger for our lunches that we loved. It was a large crisp cookie with large crystals of granulated sugar on it. Kroger also carried a boxed, refrigerated orange drink that we carried in our thermos. I really miss that too, but am sure it had a dye that was eventually pulled as unsafe!

Re: Cookies You Loved That Aren't Available Now

There was a local bakery in the town I grew up in, that had been in business for generations. My dad worked there in high school. It was a small, hole in the wall, mom and pop type thing.

They had the best cookies, chocolate chip, and some kind of an iced bar cookie, can't remember the name.

They went out of business in the early 80's as I recall, and I know I'll never taste those cookies or anything close to them ever again. I wish the recipe had been sold to another bakery locally, but to the best of my knowledge, they are gone forever!

I always loved Hydrox cookies but they no longer make them.  I hate Oreos and still do.

This one goes WAY back. There was a very large oval packaged cookie when I was a kid that came with pink or white frosting and was strongly flavored with anise. I think maybe the cookie itself was very spicy too.

We always had them when my grandma and grandpa came to visit.

I LOVED them.

I miss those too but I have found some that come from England called Crawfords Garibaldi biscuits.  The filling is currants and maybe a little thinner than the Golden Raisin Bars we remember.  I get them on Amazon and Vermont Country Store.  They are pricey but I treat myself now and then.

I don't remember ever having store bought cookies as a kid. We didn't have a lot of extras.

My mom did bake though so we got cake for our birthdays and she made the best cream puffs. I remember fresh baking bread too.

Keebler makes the grasshopper cookies that taste just like the GS thin mints.

The brown edge cookies I have never heard of.
