Totally!   My sister - got a car for a grad gift.   Nothing against her.  She was a good kid and grew up to be a good adult.  It was just a sign of the way things were.   The mother never liked me.

My parents paid for most of my college, that was the gift that kept on giving. I worked for extras, but I had no loans hanging over my head.

@QVCkitty1    My parents were always frugal and we had what we needed growing up. ....the basics and that was fine.  When it was time to go to college...my parents paid for our education in full.  It must have been difficult since there were 3 of us.  But... it was the best gift I ever received. Not having that debt starting out in life is priceless.

My parents gave me a beautiful gold charm bracelet. Later on I added some gold charms. I still have it after all these years.

A new Singer sewing machine, which I was thrilled with.  I loved to sew (still do) and had made much of my high school wardrobe on my mom's very old machine.  I had a scholarship to pay for college, so no expenses for my parents on that front.

I see nothing wrong with a BlendJet for a gift.  Especially if they will be in a dorm room.  Not everyone is close to the graudate or wants/can spend a lot.

I have a beautiful cedar chest from my parents that I treasure to this day. I know they are considered a worthless gift anymore but I will always love mine.

I think it would be a fine gift for a kid who’s going to be loci I guess in a dorm.
