Getting new carpet installed today.  Just where the bedrooms are on the third floor, it's close to 2000 square feet.  Costing a small fortune, but besides that, would you tip the installers?  TIA.

No, they're getting paid for the job by their employer.  Maybe offering water, etc. would be a nice gesture.

yes, i would give them a tip AND offer them a bottle of water or a can of soda.

Aren't they being paid to install your carpet? Why would you think they need to be tipped? They are getting a salary for doing a job. People are so over the top with this tipping these days. My cousin is an appliance repair man - he charges $85/hour and he says people still offer him tips. He feels guilty taking a tip over & above his charges so he thanks them but doesn't take it.

I would not.  Presumably their employer is paying them a living wage.

I'm one of those who you can accuse of getting carried away. Probably a leftover from way back in the days when I worked as a waitress for a couple of years. Right or wrong, I'd be giving them each 20 bucks.

When we had carpet and flooring installed (at the same time) there was one appliance my husband couldn't move by himself, so the carpet installers helped him move that. We, of course, tipped them for that service, but would have tipped them anyway because we're tippers -- as long as the service is good.

This is something that I've been wondering about...not just carpet installers but other services for the home.  They are different than wait staff who don't get paid much and some make very good salaries.

Over the weekend we had a Verizon tech come out to repair our internet & TV which was down from the storm and power outage.   It was just us (not the neighborhood) since our equipment was old and defective.

He was here for about an hour and I asked my husband if we should tip...he didn't think so.  I googled this on my phone and there were mixed opinions on this.  Some felt that you should but others claimed they already made a lot of money...besides what's the difference between some of these installers & technicians or a sales associate in a store who might help you a lot?

We didn’t tip because we paid separately for carpet and the carpet contractor. We always offer water or soda. Based on the price of carpet how much would you tip?

I always tip, amount acording to what I have in my billfold. I am a widow and the service people/workers seem to go out of their way for me.  Some seeing something they could easily do for me, nothing to do with why they were here.  Of course they are offered water or sodas.
