My husband does the laundry, so I asked him and he says usually out and there's no reasoning for it.

I wash socks for DH and wash the outside out.

Years ago I'd get irritated my son would leave his socks half outside in & sort of a ball. Then folding all laundry is now his chore, I now wash them as he leaves them--if they don't get clean from him not shaking out his sock wads, he can put them back in his dirty hamper. It worked! It got him to not leave his socks so they don't wash well.

However, they end up in the laundry.

No.
We pretty much always take them off right side out, just like we put them on. Of course, there is an oops once in awhile...where they happen to be taken off inside out. It stays that way then until the next wearing when it gets turns the right way.
Socks to me, get dirty on the outside - so that side stays out. But I guess really, it does not matter which way. 🤔 The water and detergent both go thru the whole sock. 🧦

Yes, but the lint stays behind and the only way to get the lint out is to turn the socks inside out.

I wash with outside out, always.
That's where they're dirtiest.

Inside out. A very long time ago when I pulled off black or navy blue socks in such a way that they were inside out it's was shocky to see so much dried skin flakes. ICK. Want that washed away and down the drain. So now it's habit to do them inside out.

Inside ou! When I do wear socks during colder months, they are dark colors. Turning them inside out prevents lint from sticking to them and also pilling. I don't wear white or light colored socks, but if I did, I would wash them outside out, for obvious reasons. 😊

Only thing that I ever turn inside out (if I remember ahead of time) is blue jeans because they say it helps to keep them from fading in a top load agitator washer. Also must use cold water only and low or medium low heat dry.
