Re: Need more In put on Maytag washers

I bought the MVWC565FW in August and I just love it. I think it's a little older model than the one you are looking at. But mine is a top loader with automatic water level settings, depending on the size of the load.

It has an extra large capacity so I can wash extra small loads or fill the thing up with water and wash heavy quilts. I am more than pleased with mine and I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

I also got the matching gas dryer. I've never had a gas dryer before and I thought I would give it a try. It dries my clothes in a quarter of the time it took my old electric dryer and they come out so soft and wrinkle free.

All in all, I'm very impressed with my Maytag set.

Re: Need more In put on Maytag washers

goldenretriever,

I disliked my Maytags also - lasted 5 yrs.  My former neighbor highly recommended that brand since she raved that they lasted years.  I had lousy luck with mine.

I purchased a new SQ earlier this year - top loader w/ agitator & love it.  Should have purchased a new dryer with it, since then my current Whirlpool has issues with the timer.

Could you please let me know problems with the new SQ design?

thank you,

Senic

you just purchased your SQ this year. Is a 2017 model or 2018?????????

the new SQ models are government issued decrees washers,(all the washers being made in the USA are required to go this way as of 2018.  SQ washers didn't follow mandate about using half to quarter of water for washing entire load of clothes. that is the other requirement for all washers being made is US. SQ still uses full tub of water for washing clothes.

the SQ fills entirely with water YET. the drum agitates one way, then switches direction and agitates the other way. the entire wash cycle is like that. right to left--then left to right for however much time you set on the washer for that load.

apparently people are now saying with this new agitation the clothes are barely moved around, no more agitator bringing to bottom of machine, and brought back up.

The SQ does still have an agitator, fills with water. People are saying the clothes are not getting clean enough for them.

my personal opinion is, the washers are now like a front loader except they are a top loader with agitator. really think about it. front load washer spins so long one way, reverses goes the other way, back and forth for entire wash load.

you can still use pods, which many of the new washers you can NOT use pods any longer, you MUST USE LIQUID laundry detergent. did find that out last weekend when dh and i went looking at lowes for new washers.

i did talk with SQ directly. they know about all the negative statements on the market. Their hands are tied because of the new regulations from the US government.  the other items SQ was stateing to me was the fact many of the new SQ haters are using the ECO power wash for washing clothes. Apparently this really isn't a wash cycle for normal clothes washing. It really was meant for refreshing clothes without going thru a full wash cycle, something that needs to washed in a hurry and dried in a hurry and worn asap. ECO cycle is only 25-30 minute cycle start to finish.

the more I think about it. I just may wait 6 months see if any kind of reviews have changed or gotten better and purchase the new TR7 again.

Maybe I made a mistake cancelling the order. I don't know.  As my husband says, if the washer ain't broke why change it, which is true. The washer ain't broke keep using it.

Re: Need more In put on Maytag washers

7 years ago I purchased a top-of-the-line Maytag bravos. Then about 10 months ago I started to have error messages. I called an independent repair person who told me that the problem I was experiencing was related to rotors and that the machine was in the process of failing. I am one who paid attention to consumer reports when I purchased my Maytag bravos washer. It was considered top of the line then and CR gave it top marks. At the beginning of the year my Maytag totally died. Another visit from an independent repair person confirmed that it would cost me more to fix it then to replace it. As the machine was only seven years old I was upset. I asked the repair person if it were him what would he recommend. Without hesitation he said Speed Queen. Long story short I purchased a TR5 and have not looked back. There are a lot of reports generated by people who seem to be trying to ruin the reputation of Speed Queen but I can say with certainty that my clothes and all types of laundry have never been cleaner and I would never purchase any other brand again.  And the independent repair person I talk to said he is seeing a lot of these types of breakdowns and it happening within your six and eight of ownership. Very common in machines that have the flat disc in power at the bottom of the wash tub. He said he would never purchase one for himself.

after reading and talking with dh and watching utube videos all weekend, going to just call it a day and NOT PURCHASE RIGHT NOW. My SQ is ok, not the bestest . At least the tub does fill with water, no horrid smells (mold-mildew). Just won’t have a delicate cycle. Will just look and research.

will have to admit, the SQ has worked without any problem for over 3 yrs now. Will just continue to hope someday i will find something i am happy with.

According to this you already own a speed queen for 3 years?  Then you would have one of the better older models.  Why are you wanting a change?  I have a 2016 AWN432 top load speed queen which is wonderful for me.  I love being able to change cycles at a whim according to what I am trying to accomplish with a load.

I owned a Maytag washer and dryer years ago and had absolutely no problems whatsoever.  The washer was top load with agitator.  Kenmore and Whirlpool are also excellent products.

Re: Need more In put on Maytag washers

@Viva123,

I purchased a 2018.  I did ask the sales rep & was told it was new on the market.  The water senses the loadsize & fills according to the load.  And I prefer the knobs as opposed to the computer base.  They're easier & I would think less expensive to repair down the road.  I couldn't get over the mold smell even with the washer door left open.  I'm very happy with the cleanliness & by the way, my husband prefers this machine as well.

When the intaller realized he was removing the frontloader, he said so many people were trading those in for new top loaders.  Too many complaints about the smell & filth of it on the rubber piece.

Good luck with whatever choice you make,

Re: Need more In put on Maytag washers

I can not recommend   Speed Queen. I had the 2017 model with the  electronic panel. The tub put holes in my clothes. I was putting my thin Tees in laundry bags before putting them in the wash. One pair of jeans were shreddred at the knees in the Speed Queen. Speed Queen gave me the run around for awhile, but finally had a technician come out and change the tub. When he took the tub out, he noted the the punch out for the drain holes where very rough. He told me "No wonder your clothes are getting holes in them". He should not have spoken so soon without looking at the replacement tub. The drain holes in it were just as rough. I sold the machine, and purchase the Magtag MVWB865GW. Thus far, I've been pleased with the machine. The past weekend, however, I have two Loft sweaters that are about 5 years old. One had a small hole in it from the  Speed Queen washer. After washing them both on the delicate cyle in the Maytag, they both came out with holes in them. I'm beyond crazy with this problem. I wore both of the sweaters through the week. I know the one sweater had only the one hole in the front of it before going in the wash. My husband tells me to buy better quality clothes. I tell him the Loft sweaters weren't cheap. Now, I'll be checking everything that comes out of this washing machine for holes. We've had the machine for 6 months. Why it decided to put holes in the sweaters after 6 monthes is beyond me, unless the bearings are going in the machine already.

Re: Need more In put on Maytag washers

I have a Speed Queen pair, bought new in 2016 or early 2017. Salesperson told me about the upcoming changes per govt regs -- SQ was able to sell models produced in 2017 as being 'grandfathered" in but then had to follow the mandate after that.

I have the SQ washer (top loader wih agitator) with electronic panel. The machine has worked flawlessly and I've been very pleased. I use liquid and pods alternately. I have a SQ gas dryer with electronic panel and no issues there, either. These machines are workhorses and I plan to keep them forever! These machines do laundry like it was meant to be done: quickly, effectively, efficiently. They aren't silent but that's ok -- it's rather comforting to hear your clothes getting clean!

I'd say keep the SQ machines you have. You just purchased them in 2016, right? Believe me, it isn't any better out there.

I had Maytags for years. New Maytags were awful IMHO.
