I ordered the TSV today, I like the fact that they will deliver it, set it up, and remove the old mattress set. I am very much looking forward to it.

@eddyandme

A ramp for your dog will help, and maybe also a blanket or throw that's just for your dog and won't be destroyed by dog nails and won't get nails caught in it.  It may focus his scratching/scuffling.

Besides the other good ideas here, remember if you spend time sitting up in bed to watch tv or read, make sure your mattress doesn't sink in so that all the remotes join you in a depression.  That might not be noticed if you only lie down on a mattress when testing.  Be sure to test it sitting up, too.

Here's a ramp similar to one I had used for years.  My dogs wouldn't use stairs but they loved the ramp.

Thanks, @GingerPeach.  I've been looking at those on amazonsmile.  At this time, not sure if Eddy can handle the ramp.  He's doing a lot better now and his vet comes here to check him out I'll ask her if she thinks he's got the strength in his back legs to walk up the ramp or if he can jump:  not sure whether or not he lacks the strength to jump and needs to be taught or if he can use a ramp.  Gotta schedule him for end of this month so I'll have a better idea then - I hope!

I had to teach one of mine to use the ramp, too, @eddyandme.

Best of everything for your Eddy.  I hope it all works out.  Heart

I might be wrong, and someone jump in, but if the mattress doesn't need a boxspring, then you need something on which the mattress should rest.  Like a platform which means more expense.

@jackthebear- You are correct.  Traditionally, mattresses required the use of a box spring foundation, and used on a traditional bed frame.  Nowadays there are mattresses that don't require a box spring.  However, if someone wants to use them on a traditional frame, some modifications will have to happen like putting wooden slats across so the mattress doesn't fall through.  Even if they did that, it wouldn't take into account how low the mattress would be. Therefore, a platform that's designed purposely for use with a mattress only option is the way to go.  They are made high enough so the actual bed height feels more natural.  Another benefit is that the user ends up with a nice amount of storage space under the bed.

That's the one I now have in mind, but w/o the boxspring.  Please let me know how you like it, @RetRN!

@jackthebear. I've just looked online and platform beds aren't any more expensive than boxsprings from what I've seen.

Also, after hearing my neighbors experiences, that metal thingie that the mattress set very often has to be purchased again, guess depending on how long you've had it.  For some reason two of them ordered a mattress set from a discount place (both dissatisfied) and, upon delivery, one of them had to have them put back their mattress set and reschedule delivery 'cause the thingie wouldn't work out with the new set. Another expense!

@eddyandme  I suggest a box spring..  I had the mattress only and the mattress did not feel the same as it did with the box spring in the store.  Never again.  Get your little furbaby a stool to jump onto and then the bed. Cat Very Happy

@eddyandme  I suggest a box spring.   I had the mattress only with the proper type bed and the mattress did not feel the same as it did with the box spring in the store.  Never again.  Get your little furbaby a stool to jump onto and then the bed.  I use a stool when my kitty cat gets older.
