Re: Joy Mangano sells 250,000 mops did she make electric retailing history?

Call me crazy but I still get on my hands and knees to clean my floors.  I just can't get into mops.

I will admit, I had one of her first mops way back when. I didn't like it very much. Yesterday I was in target with my daughter shopping for other things and they have a huge Joy Mangano section now. Sure enough, the mop was front and center. I pulled it out of the display and to me, it was way too heavy, the handle was a bit to big around to hold comfortably and twisting it was ungainly. I own and love my spin mop. Easy to handle and works great.

I agree.  The mop handle is too wide for smaller hands.  My hands actually hurt after using this to mop several tile floors.  The mop is heavier so be prepared if you get this.  The locking and unlocking required is just ridiculous after a while.  I did several rooms and this was a serious pain to keep doing this.  If you want to wring out the mop, holding it straight up and down will help but you need to wring it out more than once to get most of the water out.  The bottom locking mechanism seemed to work much easier than the top locking unit.  I feel like it is a manufacturing defect.  I haven't tried to remove the mop head yet.  The mop head will get the baseboards which my don aslett mop won't really do well so I like that aspect.  Frankly, the bucket was better than the mop.  One more thing, there is the potential for some plastic piece on the mop head or mop to scratch the floor.  This didn't happen too often but every once in a while I think the fibers seperated and I did notice something plastic hit the area I was cleaning.  I think the mop gets a failing grade.

That is $5,000,000 in just mop sales - not including the bucket sales and replacement mop heads - not bad for a day's work!

She sold her company to HSN years ago so she likely receives a nice salary from HSN and perhaps a percentage of sales for her products.  It seems her children and/or their spouses are also employed by HSN.

It appears to be a win-win situation for both Joy and HSN.  That is good business...if everyone is winning.

It won't be - the reviews are horrible - I returned mine and so are a ton of other people apparently. It was an awful mop - heavy, impossible to unlock, people who actually kept it long enough to use it are saying it is scratching their floors, etc.

I got her mop this past weekend (in teal) at Target. They have all of her products for sale in one section. (therefore no shipping charges of course) I did not get the bucket because I think that is overpriced.
