Re: How do you keep your TV?

Does this mean you are listing your home for sale again?

Re: How do you keep your TV?

I still have one of the old style big heavy portable TV sets - on a TV stand that has shelves for VCR, books, etc.

TV works fine - can't see spending money for another.  I'll wait until this one dies.

No bedroom TV ... I'm there to sleep or read, not watch TV.

Re: How do you keep your TV?

all of our televisions sit on a type of cabinet, depending on what room they are in. in our kitchen the small tv sits on the countertop underneath of a cabinet. they are all basically at eye level or slightly above.  i have not had one of those huge media centers for years now.

Re: How do you keep your TV?

I find it pretty sad that your realtor thinks (with valid reason, I am sure) people won't like your house because of the (nonpermanent) entertainment center.  Don't people understand the concept of the house vs. the furniture, anymore?

Has anyone heard of virtual staging. It’s called pad styler. Basically if you do not want to stage your house you can do it with this service. It takes images of your house and inserts different things to show a buyer what they can do with the house. I think it’s a pretty cool concept.

Your realtor is right!  Get a modern TV stand that doesn't hold masses of stuff, collect dust, make the room look smaller and is just flat out 1980's.  It is just missing the car-sized big screen tv to go with it.

Learn from Ccassaday and get one that is slimmer in profile.  I suppose your generation would say it looks like a buffet.  Here are some examples.

This one has a faux fireplace if it gets chilly.

This one is long if it is a good sized wall.

These are just images from Googling "TV Stand".  This is what updated TV stands look like from the past 10-15 years.  You can still get those massive ones like below, but they make the rooms look smaller unless you have a 20 x 30 foot sized living room.  Your duplex is not large by your descriptions with moderatish sized rooms, so your current stand, as you described it, makes that room look super small.  I do remember the realtor asked you to put some furniture in storage, so you may want to look at how much you have or the size of the furniture making the rooms look smaller than they are.  The south is known of lovers of big furniture.

All new pieces but massively outdated in style and huge in size.

Re: How do you keep your TV?

@151949 if the realtor could not sell a house because it has a large wall unit holding the TV, I'd send him on his way. Our TV is 55 inches and sits on an antique library table. I just had a guest ask if he could buy it. How could I get rid of something that held all my Little Golden Books?

Re: How do you keep your TV?

I never had a TV anywhere in my house except the bedrooms on a small stand. We live in our bedrooms though.

Re: How do you keep your TV?

I would never have a wall mounted TV, especially above a fireplace. That will eventually go out of style and I have heard of them falling down. I don't know why people fall for these trends instead of practicality.

Did you decide to put your home back on market?  Homes in our area are now at a premium ...not enough inventory for the amount of buyers.  (over 55 communities are few in this area.)

To answer you're tv question.  When I bought this home they had just replaced all the furnishings, and there was a huge double cabinet entertainment center in the den.  It only housed a 40" tv.

I separated the pieces -- in fact, put the bridge part out for garbage.  Called every donation place no one wanted it so I sold the end cabinets.  My tv sits on the base in my LR (my tv) -- in den he has 75" (right now on tv stand) we are patiently waiting for this one to come back in stock .

Bedrooms both have tv on nice console/accent tables.  They are 46".  Rarely watch tv in bedroom.

As for realtor -- hope it's not the same scenario as last one who you said "emptied & staged" your house his way!

I think they know the trends BUT most buyers can look past your furniture with their vision of how they want their homes.

Good luck if you're selling!
