@SeaMaiden wrote:What I do not like is when the host or vendor comments how the garment makes the plus models look "SO SKINNY"....when did it become necessary to feel clothes are to make us look skinny? Is that the goal? Why can't the plus model just look lovely?
i also do not care for host comments anout how this or that covers the bits and pieces ...or hides the back fat or hides your arms.....and all the other words they use to describe the HORRORS of being overweight.
Well said, the host is looking in a hugh monitor and seeing what she knows millions are seeing and her job is to sell it and she isn't pleased with what she sees.
In reality even without vanity sizing designer clothes do run smaller, It doesn't matter how thin I am , my bone structure does not fit that of the perfect girl world.

Tthat was Antonella who was doing that and i agree with you It doesn't sound very nice.

Why do the hosts/vendors think it is important to 'cover everything up.' On most shows you hear how this top will cover your bottom or your middle. It's not said as a way to just describe the item, as in length. It's said in a way that we should hide or camouflage parts of our body.
How about just describing the item.

I would say by today's standards, anyone over a size 12, the hosts would be Antonella, Carolyn and Leah that would be considered plus size.

Why is there even a "name" Plus Size....... I don't get it! A size is a size...

I'm a fan of Antonella. I find her to be genuine and down-to-earth. Having been a plus sized woman for awhile, 35 years ago, I still remember how I felt. Even though I lost over 100 pounds on Weight Watchers all those years ago, I know how tough we can be on ourselves if we're overweight. Even now, as a size 8, I still have that overweight person in my brain at times.
I mention all this because I know how Antonella likely feels. I've been there. With all the thin models, as well as some of the slim hosts, she's probably reminded of the difference all too often. I do not mean that as a criticism or a weakness, just the reality of what women in our society go through if they're overweight. Just think about what constitutes a plus size model in the fashion world these days...size 12...sometimes even size 10. Yikes! No wonder so many women put themselves down.
I find it interesting that most men have no such problems. My husband and I just spent ten days in Florida. I put on almost four pounds and I'm still beating myself up about it. My husband put on a few pounds too and hasn't a worry in the world about it. We'll both lose the weight eventually but I won't hear my husband being as self critical as I'll be.

I have heard Antonella put herself down as well. She was recently on QPlus selling QF and talking about how she isn't a skinny minny and made a few other comments. I also remember when the SkinnyTees came out in a plus size she said that she was never able to wear the others and was very happy they now offered them in plus size.
I detest when people put themselves down. In my experience, people either do it because they are looking for compliments (like an obviously thin person will speak about being fat) or they have very low self-esteem. I have a relative who does this all the time and it drives me nuts. It makes people uncomfortable.
I wish people weren't so hung up on bodies. I see it all the time on this board where posters make comments about hosts/vendors figures.

Is it the choice of words that bothers the plus sized ladies? 'Cuz I don't know anyone, fat or thin, that wants to look larger than they actually are and I see plenty of that with all the 'camoflage' and 'covers it all up' fashion that the Q peddles. So when a vendor or host says the plus sized model looks 'skinny' I'm quite certain their simply saying that it flatters their shape.
The TSV isn't flattering on anyone!

She is a victim of society. Plus anything except food portions seem to be looked down upon. We are all programmed to be little little or else we are not of value.
Of course in my grandmothers case, she used to chase me around the house to EAT EAT EAT because skinny was sickly and unhealthy. Boy have times changed.
I was a very small child and person UNTIL I got married, had four children and started to follow her advice. I am now short and plump. AND I AM IN SHAPE... ROUND IS A SHAPE. lol.
