"Macys is the new Sears"  Very apt.  I've always hated that store.  Glad it's getting it's just deserts.

I'm not -- I have a close family member at the management level for two stores!

Sales have changed, though. Some stores used to only have sales twice a year or so (Talbots, Hanna Andersson, etc.), so one really had to wait until the end of the season to get good deals. Today, those same stores run sales all the time, so it's much easier to get current items at lower prices.

Because that way you get the size or color you want. There's no point in saving money on an item you can't wear or don't like.

Why is that hard to understand?

There is a trend today of having a minimalist wardrobe. Fewer pieces of clothing with the emphasis on quality. Some basics never go on sale or if they do, if you need a particular size that is very popular, you won't find it when the item goes on sale. I rarely find sales on some of the clothing I wear. However, I don't buy a lot and only what I love, so it doesn't bother me if I pay full price.

Re: Consumers' Changing Shopping Habits

I was in Las Vegas last month and I visited the Fashion Show mall that's on the strip. They have Macy's, Dillards, Nordstrom, Saks and Neiman Marcus. After my visit to the same mall in January I decided to limit my visit to Dillards, Macy's, and Nordstrom. I was there between sales -- after Mother's Day but before the Memorial Day long weekend and the pickings were slim. I bought nothing from that mall except lattes from Nordstrom's coffee bar. I looked in Nordstrom and they didn't have Laura Mercier gift packs. Macy's was such a dump and hard to get around inside with no signage for the washrooms or mall exits. Dillards was meh. I ended up spending my money at the Clarks outlet store in the outlet mall just south of the strip and at the Walking Company store in the Miracle Mile mall. Yes, I spent nearly $300 dollars U.S. on two pair of shoes -- both on sale -- and that was it for my clothes purchases.

In Canada, those fast fashion places like H&M only carry sizes up to a 14 (which fits like a size 12) and there's nothing in that store for me except scarves and swimsuit coverups. I'm better off buying exercise bras at Walmart in an XXL for $12 then trying to find ones elsewhere. The Walmart ones have removable pads and they are nicely made.

I was looking for men's clothing for Father's Day and a  lot of it is expensive and made in Bangadesh or some other 3rd world country.

@colliegirlsBecause you love, love, love it, it will work with what you have, and you wear the most popular size.  It will be gone in a week and you will be stuck with no choice.Smiley Happy

True. And add to that all the Internet only stores.
