Re: Owning Multiple Tablets - Reasons?

I started out with one 7" Kindle Fire HD. I wanted the bigger Kindle Fire HD, but they weren't out yet and we were leaving on a trip and wanted one. So I settled for the 7" wifi only HD. A couple months later I went ahead and bought the 9" Kindle Fire HD (3G version). I own my own business, so I can "play" when it isn't busy. I took the 9" Kindle Fire to work to watch Netflix on and to play games.

Zoom to a year later when the Kindle Fire HDX came out. I wanted to upgrade both of them, but couldn't make myself spend that much money. Since the 9" kindle HD 3G was so expensive, I decided to upgrade the cheaper 7" HD. I had all intentions of selling my 7" HD. After I got the new 7" HDX, I decided I wouldn't get that much out of my old 7" HD, so I kept it. I now leave that by my bedside all the time. It is very handy when I go to bed to read on or play games.

So I have 3. My bigger Kindle HD will be 2 years old and I don't know if I'll upgrade that one this year or not. Depends on what features the new one has.

I no longer need the 3G feature, so when I upgrade, I don't think I'll get that. I have a Samsung Note 3 phone that I can use when I need 3G.

Counting my BIG phone, I have 4! LOL My husband has never touched any of them. He isn't interested at all.

I do have chargers for all of them so there is a charger by where I keep each one, it is so much more handy.

YIKES! I forgot I have a Paperwhite too. LOL It is small and so handy to carry around and the battery lasts so long.

I have FIVE!

I must be terribly rich just like William!

I have 3: a work tablet (Windows 8.1 garbage), a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 which is my primary and a replacement for a laptop, and a Kindle Fire which I use for reading.

Re: Owning Multiple Tablets - Reasons?

I have four. One I bought on sale at Christmas for a very low price, but never unboxed - it's a Nook Glow or something like that. I would like to donate it.

My other 3 are a Nook Tablet, Nook HD+ and a Kindle 7" Fire HD (not the current version). All were purchased on sale after my very first Nook broke - within 2 years of each other. I like the Nook HD + the best, bought the kindle just to see what it was about. I read probably 3 hours a day during the week and more on weekends so they get A LOT of use. I suspect when the Nook HD+ breaks, I'll get a Samsung. I like the bigger screen and having a slot for an SD card.

LOL - I'm not rich - I'm addicted to reading.

I have an iPad and a Kindle (the kind made for reading). I prefer to read on my Kindle.

Re: Owning Multiple Tablets - Reasons?

I have an iPad and an iPad mini. I use the big iPad for watching TV (qvc, hsn, netflix, hulu etc), playing games, listening to music and podcasts. I keep my iPad in one spot in my bedroom and I don't have a TV. I can surf the internet on my laptop at the same time watching TV on my iPad. I use my iPad mini for travel and moving around. It's lighter and can put in my purse easier. I read books on it, keep up with the news, and check my emails.

I have a dumb question about tablets. Do you have to get some kind of contract and pay to use them like a phone? If you have Wi-Fi at home or in public, is that all you need to go online on them? I'm confused as to how they work.

I'm a novice on all this, so pardon the "dumb" questions.

They come either WiFi capable or WiFi and 4G capable. The combo ones are more expensive by $100 or so. If you have the WiFi only one, yes, you can only be online somewhere there is a WiFi signal. If you buy the WiFi and 4G combo you can either just use it as WiFi only or pay a monthly service fee like the phone and are able to use it anywhere, just like the phone.

I'm only familiar with Apple products so this applies to them, I'm not familiar with Samsung, etc. My dad has a Nook tablet and it's WiFi only not even sure it comes with 4G capability.

Thanks KKris...

You've explained it well. I appreciate you responding.

But of you activate the cellular, there's no contract. You pay for a "block" of usage. It's goo from 30 days or until it runs out, whichever comes first. It's a use it when you need it thing. No contract with a monthly cost.

I do have a contract with Verizon. It was cheaper that way. Yes, it's a contract but it's not like I was going to get rid of it all of a sudden. I have the insurance if it needs to be replaced before the contract is up.

I share the data plan with my phone and my dad's phone and the iPad. We still keep it under 4g.

Re: Owning Multiple Tablets - Reasons?

I have a Kindle Fire and love it but I am going to buy another tablet, I'm not sure which one yet. I'll let my husband pick one out for me. I need another one because I'm missing out on things that require Adobe Flash. I'm a computer illiterate, I can't follow the instructions for downloading it or any flash player on my Kindle.

I have an iPad with WiFi/4G & use our WiFi when I'm at home. I like to use it in the car when we travel or go out of town. You can buy so many GB like one day service for $5 or a 30 day plan. That way you don't have to pay a monthly fee. When we were notified our power would be out 5-6 hrs one day for repairs I bought the one day plan for $5 so I could get online. This is with AT&T service. They have a $5, $14.99, $30 or $50 data pass plans.
