Echo Has A New Wake Word

[ Edited ]

Amazon just quietly updated one of the most important parts of the Echo in a move that is sure to delight Star Trek fans everywhere.

The company added "computer" to the list of supported wake words for its Echo devices — no doubt a reference to the powerful voice-activated computer onboard the Starship Enterprise.

It looks like Amazon has been rolling out the update slowly over the last few days, though the company hasn't said much about it beyond an update  which details how to change it via the Alexa app.

I can't decide how I feel about this! Part of me is super excited to get home and say, "Computer, turn on the lights!" but another part of me recognizes that I can't keep that setting and watch Star Trek or my Echo will go crazy with all the TV commands.

No fair!!!  I want it for my Google Home!  That is my dream.  A small one I know but still a dream to be Captain Janeway just for two seconds.  Smiley Very Happy

@Laura14, if you open links check out the video at the bottom of the linked article where Alexa and Google get caught in a loop.

@Marp  Ugh!  Won't play on work computer.  I'll have to try it at home.

Re: Echo Has A New Wake Word

It makes a lot of star trek refs. Ask it to "beam me up" or "Earl grey, Hot"
