Tired of watching me husband struggle with his VISTA. Plan on getting him a new laptop for Valentines Day. He's not a big tech guy so he's not real particular except he wants a 17"+ screen. Please help.

It would depend on what he uses his laptop for; gaming, work? Vista is an operating system. You'll get different recommendations here. Some people swear by HP, others Dell and others who will only use a MAC. Personally, I have a Toshiba which has held up for quite some time.

If the laptop is otherwise in good condition, you can upgrade the Vista to Windows.

This is JMO, and my son's and pretty much everyone I know...
Apple MacBook Pro...13" or 15" all the way! I believe you can
purchase a 17" screen, but think this size is being phased out.
My son has always used Apple products and swears by them and purchased an Apple IPad for me for Christmas one year. I love it, and all my Apple products!

@AKgirl2, another vote for a MacBook. I bought a Pro a couple of months ago and am so happy to be rid of windows. Expensive though! LM

Apple does not offer a 17" laptop.

OT, but I had a 17" laptop and I hated it. Way too big. Bought to appease DH who never used it anyway so I didn't listen to him and this time got a 13". Love!!! LM

Vista is an older Windows OS....new laptops now come with Windows 10 and can be a bit overwhelming/change at 1st until you get used to Windows 10.
What do you use the laptop for? You can get a pretty basic HP 17 inch for decent prices (400-500)....check out some of the common places like best buy, micron center, new egg, tiger direct.

Hi @fritzee,
If you think that he might want to try something different than a Windows-based computer that would be easier for him to use if he just basically uses his computer to go online and check emails and watch videos and so on, perhaps you would want to consider a Google Chromebook for him, as an option?
The largest screen size that they offer is 15 inches, though.
My husband and I both use Chromebooks now, and enjoy their ease of use. It's basically like using a Chrome browser all of the time.
A Chromebook uses a Chromium operating system.
It has a built-in antivirus and anti-spyware program too, so you don't have to worry about installing any software for that, either.
