I'm very cynical and am wondering if this is available to Prime Members that memberships are expiring. This would be a ploy to get you subscribe again to get the $99 price ( which would cost cost you the $199 anyway).

My Prime membership ends in January. I am not buying an Echo. I will get a iPod Touch. I can use the Touch to interface my internet radio with an Apple app. I am using this app with my iPad, and it runs great.

I'm enjoying the conversations people are having with their Echo's. There's a thread of Echo conversations going on in the Kindle forums and they're pretty entertaining. People really, really seem to love their Echos.

I get numerous daily emails from Amazon and I've been deleting many of them without opening. I inadvertently deleted the Echo invitation on the 18th. I retrieved the email today and ordered the Echo. Fortunately the 7-day ordering period had not expired. I'll get it on Monday.

I am very disappointed I wasn't chosen to purchase this. I'm not going to get it at $199 if I could have paid $99.

Amazon wants as many Prime members as possible and will use any and every ploy to achieve this. The Fire phone was a total bomb and they need to make up the loss of expected revenue any way they can. Prime membership is easy money for Amazon. But what they are really doing, it seems to me, is alienating customers who do not feel Prime membership is worth it to them, no matter what the "giveaway." They are creating a price-and-benefits gap between casual occasional Amazon shoppers and Prime members with favored status in many ways, that never existed before to this extent. It's only the latest thing that has put me off Amazon. I still purchase, but only rarely, when I have little choice.

Hopefully my Amazon e-mail problems have now been resolved. I've just spent ten minutes with an Amazon CSR and he deleted all of my old subscriptions and the deletions came through my e-mail and I resubscribed to them all as directed, so hopefully that will fix my missing e-mails issue. He seemed confident that would resolve the issue. He said they've had that issue before.

I'd created a new account in my mother's name to test different e-mail accounts (yahoo, g-mail, and hotmail) with her and they all came up empty, so I'm not overly confident, but we'll see. Since I have a second account in her name now I went ahead and requested an Echo in her name also. Who knows? Maybe they'll like her more than me and offer her an Echo and I can get one that way.

I have it. I've been playing with it all weekend. It's awesome. I wanted a radio for the kitchen-living room area, and this is much more. I can check weather, make a shopping list, play playlists of music, ask for random music, play Iheartradio. The sound is excellent. I just have to talk to it to get it to do this and that.

It is nice you are enjoying your "Echo".
