I'm also signed up. It looks like Amazon is trying to gauge customer enthusiasm for the device before they start manufacturing it. Reportedly they built too many Fire Phones and tied up a lot of capital in devices that are just sitting in their warehouses taking up space. They don't want to repeat that mistake, so they're using this pre-pre-order routine to see how much enthusiasm there really is. The turnaround time for electronics these days is reportedly 4-6 weeks from the time something is ordered until it arrives in the States. Amazon doesn't want to order more than they can sell and they also don't want to have a huge backlog of customers who want one but can't get it, so they're feeling out customer demand before they decide how many to order.

I think it's informative that they've now moved Echo off the homepage. I'm guessing they got a good feel for how interested consumers are and are/or already have, placed their first order. Amazon execs are smart enough to know many of those who signed up won't buy, but now they've got some idea of the number of customers who would be interested in buying and based on that they'd now have a number in mind to buy.

I expect orders to be taken in the next week or two. I would think they'd like to get the orders in before Black Friday. Get customers' money before they can spend it elsewhere. I doubt that everyone who signed up will get the opportunity to buy right away, but as some don't order, others will get invited. I've got a hundred dollars set aside that I'll use for one if I get the opportunity before Black Friday. If I still have the money on Black Friday then it's likely to go elsewhere and I'll pick up an Echo later.

Amazon mistake with their Fire phone was that it was only available for one carrier. But, the phone market is covered well by other companies. The Echo is a brilliant techie device and not many products out there that cover this market.

I watched the video on Amazon.com and it is ''stand alone''....but you can use an android app to link it to an android phone or tablet

Can it be used with an iPhone or iPad?

I think there is an app you can sync it to but is for a Kindle.

You can still buy this little device for $199.

Silly question, but has anyone gotten any e-mail of any kind from Amazon since signing up to try and get an Echo? I'm signed up to get tons of e-mail from them, but nothing has come through since signing up for Echo. Not the Deal of the Day, Gold Box specials, or any of the other e-mails I'm supposed to get. Is this just me or are others who signed up for Echo experiencing the same issue? My e-mail address is correct as when I went to Amazon to check my e-mail preferences the notice that I'd changed them came through fine, but I'm not getting the 'normal' e-mails and they're not in any of my spam folders.

I am getting my normal email from Amazon. I have not received anything about the Echo.

I was afraid it was just me. I'll head back to Amazon and switch my preferences to a second e-mail address and see if that restarts things. Normally I'll get several e-mails a day from them and lately there's been nothing. Everyone else is flooding my inbox with pre-holiday deals/offers but Amazon's gone quiet on me.

I'm a Prime member so if I can't get it for $99 there is no way I'm paying $199.
