Dang! I missed the first cut. Those who got the call have 7 days to make the buy. If they don't chances are some of us also-rans may get a chance. Oh well, at least it frees up the $100 I've got set aside for Black Friday spending now. The very early reviews seem pretty positive so far.

I wonder how they determined who got an invite? I didn't get one but maybe some people will decide not to get it after all and they will send out some more invites.

It appears to have been a random pick. Some extremely loyal customers were passed over and some lesser customers rewarded. It doesn't really seem like there was any rhyme or reason to the picks. Supposedly they'll release a few units at a time until ready for the full release. Someone talking to customer service was told it would be a ""long time"" until the units were readily available.

There are some on the Amazon discussion boards saying that they received the Echo and are really loving it... I do hope someone on these boards gets picked so we can hear first hand how they like it...DW

The early reviews of the Echo are extremely positive. They say it sounds great and works well. One user is already taking it for granted and just routinely asking it stuff without thinking about it. I'd love to know how many were sent out. A few have popped up on E-Bay at very high prices, but there's been no real word on how many they sent out initially. A hundred? A thousand? Ten thousand? One thing's for sure, the early buzz is very, very positive.

I just went to Amazon and did a search on Echo and the device came up at $199 with the option to get it by Monday, November 24th.

I will get it at $99 but not at $199.

Sad to say mine still says "Thank you for your request. If selected you will receive an e-mail with an invitation to purchase in the coming weeks." Ugh!!! I want one now! Oh well. I suspect they're just waiting for me to spend the money on something else and then drop the invite on me when I no longer have the money set aside.
