Re: front load versus top load

I have a LG front loader stacked washer and dryer and I love it.  Our laundry room has a door that leads into the garage so I have to either have a tiny washer and dryer or a much bigger stacked front loader and dryer.  Have had them for over 5 years and have no problems.  I do leave the door open all the time and every once in a while throw some Tide washer cleaner in it and it comes out smelling really fresh.

It's time to buy a new washing machine.  I've always had a top loader and have heard nothing but negative things about a front load.  I think a front load would clean better but I think about the negative reviews and am not sure if that would be a good decision.

Why would you want to bend down just to load the washer. It’s bad enough that you have to bend o Er to remember clothes from the dryer.

What bending over? My front loaders are on stands so there is no bending over.

But have you changed the water hoses yet?  Mine are on stands also.  The hot water hose broke last week.  In order to get behind and change it is quite the job.  One of them has to be taken down from the pedestal and moved out of the way to get to the hose, then put back.  It's a heavy job.  I could move my top loader out by myself in order to change the hose.

Re: front load versus top load

I just bought a new washer and dryer from Lowe’s about a month ago. I went with a top loader because I had also heard about mold problems. I went with Maytag and so far I like them both. There were very few top loaders (without a window) so it made the decision easy. I don’t know why anyone would want a see thru top on a top loader, so I eliminated all those right away. Good luck!

I bought a new top loader last year.  It's a Maytag Bravos XL.  I needed to buy the coordinating dryer as well.  I am quite pleased with the machine.  My only issue is how deep the tank is - I am barely 5 ft so I use a grabber tool to get the clothes from the very bottom.  It can be a little overwhelming to shop for new appliances if you haven't for a long time but in the end you will be so pleased to have a new working machine!

I also have a Maytag Bravos XL and the dryer.  The washer is deep (I am 5' 1") and I use a little stool to reach in the machine to pick out the washed clothes.  It's one of those stools that fold up.  I really like the machine as it does so many different kind of washes.  It is my first washer without an agitator in the middle but I've gotten used to it.

@Puppy Lips - our new washer has a see through lid. I love it.

Re: front load versus top load

I have always had a top load by Sears. No one told me it stops and makes noise a few times for a new fill up of water. Scares me.

We have a Speed Queen bought a few years ago. We love it; but I've read that the current models have changed and are not as well made.

One model of top loader that has excellent reviews is the Maytag MVWP575GW. If we ever have to replace the Speed Queen, I'll look at that Maytag model, or other Maytags. We like the brand.

My daughter had a front loader once and disliked it - balance issues, mold, etc. They got rid of it and went back to top loaders. For me, having to leave the door open all the time would be a deal breaker.

Re: front load versus top load

We have an HE top loader. We still always leave the top up to prevent any mold problems, even though they are more prevalent with front ones.

The way our laundry is set up. it would be very inconvenient to leave the door open on a front loader.

Re: front load versus top load

[ Edited ]

i have owned so many washers over the past 50 yrs. some good, some great, some duds.

i went from a speed queen top loader that used a humungous amount of water to a front loader LG.

LOVE MY LG FRONT LOADER.

the front loader get my wash clean, rinses very well. wash loads for normal cycle is about 45-50 minutes. all the other loads bedding , heavy duty I don't use. My normal and speed wash are my 2 cycles. my LG also has buttons for extra rinses, child lock and other do-dads. My laundry room is made that I can leave my washer door fully open when not in use.. I also have my washer on a pedestal so i do not have to bend down to get clothes into and out of the washer

the laundry soap is the hardest to get use to.

I use a pod if the load is a large load. I have a 4.5 cubic drum which I can put in a lot of clothes to wash at one time. I will use a pod for large load but if load is smaller I will use anywhere 1/2 TBlspoon of liquid laundry soap to 1 TABLESPOON LIQUID laundry soap. it just takes a while to figure out how much soap you need.

you can't use anything but HE SOAPS in the new washers.

SO FAR love my front load LG washer, have had it 1 year so far.
