Re: Why don't the debates show the name of each person that is speaking?

[ Edited ]

To Everyone here, especially the teachers.  Can you Please tell me what a debate is?  I am serious, neither "debate" was a debate to my understanding of debate.  Both seem to be Q&A sessions.  Last night Tapper did say upfront, CNN was going for exactly what we were watching, major discourse among the candidates.      We did not hear anything on policy, just the same sound bites we keep hearing or reading..  Also, every one of them forget that there are other policymakers,so what they are telling us is just smoke and mirrors.         I didn't get to watch the First Four, but I was able to second Engaging Eleven.  I also am an ass(Donkey).   Anyhoo, it is fun and really good to listen to all of you, very enjoyfful.                  BUT PLEASE  WHAT IS A DEBATE?          tedEbear

Tell me, if one doesn't watch, read, or listen to news especially  national news on a regular basis, then how can you be informed about what's going on,

?  ?  Scratching my head...I just don't get it.  I think if you are an American citizen, you have a responsibility to keep up with at least a rudimentary knowledge of who our political leaders are and their stances on the issues.  My goodness,  my grandparents were both immigrants to this country, English was their second language, neither of them completed an education beyond 3Rd grade, and they read the local newspapers as well as The NYT on a regular basis, besides watching Walter Cronkite every evening.  They owned their own business and both worked 12 or more hours a day so it wasn't a matter of time.   They considered it necessary to understand the issues the country was facing and to be well informed US CITIZENS.  Have we really become so lazy or complacent that we don't take the time to inform ourselves anymore ?  It's just astounding to me.,and the excuse that the news is depressing. ..guess what folks it's ALWAYS been depressing.   In my grandparents'time it was THE DEPRESSION, WW II and the Cold War, McCarthyism, Korean War, Vietnam, Watergate, oil embargoes, etc.

Thank you.  I'm puzzled that adults need name tags for the attendants?  Do they not follow ANY news?

I call that group of people. "low information voters".

There is a difference between, as you call them "low information voters" and being able to identify a person by sight.  Many people get news and current events by listening or reading the information not studying pictures.  My mom knows each and every candidate's name and their position, however I can tell you she will never be able to pick half of them out of a lineup.  Some people are just not visual, does not mean they are not up on the issues.

Names on the podiums would be nice for many people to start putting a face with the name.

Not sure if this is in response to someone else or just an observation, but I need to ask:  Why would anyone assume that because a person is not able to put a name and a face together that they are not up on current events or the issues faced by this country?

If you want to be able to put a face with the name here's your chance.

CNN is repeating the debate stating at 10 pm eastern time.

Either watch as they each introduce themselves at the beginning or listen carefully to the mods as they call them by their names when they ask them a question..

Yes, I have heard their names for years...that doesn't mean I recognize their faces when they're up on a stage and speaking.

We don't all watch a lot of tv.  My kids don't watch any tv at all...don't have cable.

I rarely watch TV. I see their faces all over the internet when I'm reading about them. It's hard to miss if you're keeping up with politics.
