How can a person not know them? They are all prominent people, mentioned in the news quite frequently. One may not be totally familiar with their records or positions, but I can't imagine not knowing who they are. People seem to be more knowledgeable about the intricate details of the Kardashians' lives than who the candidates are for president.
This is the kind of attitude that makes people just not vote or even try to understand and follow the political scene. YOU can not imagine not knowing who they are? What a one sided statement to make.....shows your ignorance in people in general.
All of the 11 candidates are not all prominent people at all! Several are new to me this go around. I watch the news, read the paper and yes watch TV. I am just the average Joe trying to understand how it all works and try to listen to every candidate to see who is who and what is what. To say everyone should know who they are?.... That is just hogwash!

Okay.
I still don't understand how one can not know or at least recognize their names. Who was it that you were unaware of?

I also have to wonder who it is that's an unknown. The only one I can think of who hasn't been front page news for a long time is John Kasich.
This is the person I was not familiar with until I was told he is the Governor of Ohio.
People from out of our area would probably wonder who Pataki was either. He was a former Governor of NY.

It depends where you live...I imagine Walker and Kasich would be better known in their neck of the woods but Christie and Potaki better known in the NE but in some remote areas maybe no one knows any of them?

Again, I wouldn't think that everyone would know everything about their pasts and records, but to at least know who they are without name tags.
I remember his show on Foxnews - "From the Heartland."
And he subbed for O'Reilly quite a bit too.

Yes of course, because it's all about RATINGS for CNN.
Also, did you know that the debate was supposed to be 2 hrs. long but CNN realized they could get advertising money for more time so two days before the show it was made into a three-hour debate? (This according to Donald Trump). It's all about ratings and dollars. So of course CNN was interesting in instigating fights which would make for more viewer interest (to watch the entire show), good ratings, and more advertising dollars. Most of the questions posed were to Trump and Bush with Fiorina just butting in all the time interrupting to get air time; hardly any questions were asked of Huckabee, Walker (who is really boring), Cruz, or Kasich. Rand Paul a few more but not many. It's as if CNN didn't take the other candidates seriously. CNN knew what it was doing - exactly - and it worked.
Uh, sorry to have to point out the glaringly obvious .... but it's all about ratings for EVERY news station and network .... seriously, didn't you know that?
I don't know why DT would have some" inside information" about CNN, but you seem to think that if he says it, it must be true. Strange comment, IMO.
@Tinkrbl44Uh seriously of course I knew that <rolling eyes upward.. But I was answering the specific question pertaining to this debate. Seriously, you didn't understand that?
It is about ratings but I don't think I ever remember three hour debates and after those three hours, I know little about candidates who I am less familiar with and may possibly be someone, I would vote for. I don't think of the Presidency as a joke or a commercial product.

Until now, this has been a nice discussion,
It's always the same "chip on the shoulder" posters.

Not all of us watch or listen to the news on a regular basis. I hate the news- it is all negative for the most part. And if we don't live in or near the states some of these candidates are from then why would we know them intimately?
There are only a few I am not familar with- know their names but not always sure which is which.
Again, I am surprised at all the politic shaming.
And those asking us who aren't able to recite each candidates by name, face, stance on all issues, etc not to vote must be from one of the parties worried about losing next year...lol ![]()

All the way back to the first televised presidential debate: Kennedy/Nixon.. That's the first one I watched.
I am really tired of being asked on this board whether I am serious. How about everybody assume my posts are serious unless I put up a smilie emoticon? Then I won't have to be asked dozens of times, "seriously?" Yes, seriously or I wouldn't be wasting time posting.
Yes, I have watched debates but not three hours and in the past content consisted of political issues or things facing our nation. Last night was fluff.

Oh yes, I forgot about that! It was inspiring and nice. He seems to be decent

If McDonald's can have a picture menu why can't we have one when voting? ThEn we could vote for them based on looks and we wouldn't have to bother to learn their names or what their views are. Oh, never mind I think we do that anyway.
