Re: Why are so many things referred to as she?

Mother Nature is referred to a she also. Maybe because it is so unpredictable.

I don't hear that often around here. I surely don't use the term myself. Non-living things are ""it"" to me.

In these languages, most common nouns are aligned a feminine gender, cars, boats, etc.. Seasons, planets, many animals, certain other objects are almostalways masculine.. I guess it's probably a hold over from that....

Thank you, interesting factoid!

to add onto this, pardon me, if I remember correctly, in Spanish a radio is EL radio if iit isn't turned on,,,,,however, it is LA radio when it is playing!!! Hmmmm, say I! Whatdoesthatmean?!?!?!? {#emotions_dlg.w00t}

I always thought that men referred to cars, boats, ships, etc as she out of affection; this was an object that they loved (also a source of frustration, as loved ones can be). My cars have always been "he." Sometimes I even gave my cars a name.

Re: Why are so many things referred to as she?

Ships & boats are always female.

Dogs are always 'he' and cats are always "she".

The Devil is male, but She-Devil is uber evil.

With Halloween coming....it was pointed out all the evil in songs are about women! =:0

Cuss words...SOB, of course, refers to a female....but the worst male slang cuss words could/has probably been said on TV...but the mother-of-all bad FEMALE cuss words, wouldn't even be used by women!! Calling the shortened version of 'seeyounextTuesday' to someone takes the argument to a whole ' other level. Right? Why? Don't know, but it is what it is.
