Why are so many things referred to as she?

Have you ever noticed that when your neighbor admires your new car, he/she, says "she's a beauty" or when the car won't start the common phrase is, she won't start, or she needs a tune up, etc, etc.

It is very windy and someone says, " Boy, she is really blowing out there". It is raining buckets and someone says, "Wow, she is coming down hard".

Come on ladies and gents, post some more things that are referred to as "she" and let's see how many we can get.

Because "she's run the world, but he's don't realize it!" {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Hurricanes with masculine names should be himmacanes.

Although English doesn't, most other languages use gender as a qualifier.. Le vs la in French for example. In these languages, most common nouns are aligned a feminine gender, cars, boats, etc.. Seasons, planets, many animals, certain other objects are almostalways masculine.. I guess it's probably a hold over from that....

Sounds like someone is getting a little PC here to me. I've addressed my personal vehicles and my race vehicles with some names other than "she", but those words won't pass the community standards test here.

Hurricanes don't discriminate. Remember Hurricane Andrew, Hurricane Bertha, etc......{#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}
