Re: Where Did Everyone Get Their Masks

Spoiler

You can order from etsy, I am not sure how much protection they give. My mom made some that have a pocket, where you put a coffee filter and its suppose to give more protection, but I am sure its not as good as the n95.

Here, a lot of people are making their own masks. There is also a tutorial online, and maybe on here also, showing how  to make a mask out of a bandana, with no sewing involved.

Re: Where Did Everyone Get Their Masks

A friend of mine started hoarding them in Feb. Small town, no less. She bought them in the Drugstores.  She isn't sharing them. People that know people in Health Care have them. When I went in for my annual physical people before clinic closed ,people  were stealing them so if you needed a mask one had to go to Reception desk.

Some people with connection to those in construction also have them. I saw my Dental Hygenist and  I felt jealous as she had a good source. A friend of mine who is in her 70s and  taught Math subjects. had a former student drop one off on her doorstep with a note.

I thought the same thing where is their source and then thought the  haves and have nots again. I wear doubled poly. neck gators  for sking and made one out of a bandana. Not going out more than once a week in public so not wearing often.  Many I see are also homemade.

@Gorgf I live in NYC and on my local news was a story about people donating their masks and gloves. It is heartwarming that their are good people that instead of hoarding they are giving to those in the greatest need, the doctors, nurses, and first responders, who are taking care of the sick.

Re: Where Did Everyone Get Their Masks

1) Leftovers from a home project this past summer. I was going to throw the out but threw them in a box with painting supplies.

2) My pulmonologist gave me a large box of them in September when I had a nasty asthma flare up. I looked at him and laughed saying "I'll never use these!" He smiled and said "You never know. Keep them tucked away just in case".

Who knew?

Oh, other than under 'beautty', does the Q sell masks? I sort of doubt it... Smiley Wink

Re: Where Did Everyone Get Their Masks

I purchased masks for my aunt and uncle in another state through Sears.  They have a marketplace with 3rd party sellers.

Re: Where Did Everyone Get Their Masks

We are using my box of 100 multi colored dust masks. The black ones look kind of cool. I got them from Amazon to wear when dusting the tops of furniture, way before any of this kicked off. I have given a couple away as well.

I have one N95 mask I bought from Amazon in the middle of the night early on when I was scared. That one I'm saving for if I or someone I know needs to tend to someone with the virus.

I also have a UV light sterilizer. Instead of throwing the dust masks away, we are leaving them in a box and if I run too low on new ones and can't get more, I will sterilize the previously worn masks. Hopefully the passage of time would kill off any virus on there too.

I have seen most everyone wearing a mask. These are mostly the type of masks people in the medical field wear. I can't beg, borrow, or steal a mask, which begs the question, where are they getting them? Maybe they ordered long ago when we were told we didn't have to wear them. I had to buy cloth masks from Etsy, I'm still waiting for them.

@Jordan2   I just bought some on Etsy, every print/color you can imagine, mine have elastic as I thought these would withstand washings as rubber bands probably wopuldn't, and I don't sew.
