Re: Weight Watcher Questions

@Perkup, You know what, I totally agree with you. I'm so tired of the "celebrity" people hawking these things. I do agree with you on that.

We need more Joe-everyday people or at least new people selling these things.

Re: Weight Watcher Questions

I haven't done the WW plan in a long time but last year the reviews are horrible.  I checked again this year and there are many complaints about the online program; same as last year.   You would think they could fix the glitches with their website.   These bad reviews are keeping me away from the plan.

I don't know if anyone else can't tolerate very low carbs, but I get weak when my carbs are too low.  I don't think the current program would be the best fit for me.

Re: Weight Watcher Questions

@Noel7

Forgot to mention, I did/do WW with the WW ap on my phone.  Never attended a meeting.  I started off wanting to lose a few pounds for my daughter's wedding and kept going on the plan.  DH says I should stop now, but I think I'd like to lose a few more.

That meeting stuff is not for me.  I don't need group support to lose weight, but I understand that others find it helpful.

Re: Weight Watcher Questions

I lost 40 lbs on WW last year.  I am 66 years old and would like to lose another

10-15 lbs.   I am an online member only- the fee is $19.95 per month.

I don't find the food choices restrictive at all.  All foods are assigned points based

on the content of the food and of course foods high in sugar have high points.

I stay away from too much sugar but occasionally have a cookie or two.  I just

look up the points.   The best part of WW are the online tools.   There you can

look up points for food and restaurant meals.   I actually plan my meals each morning so I know how I'm doing with points.  You are also given weekly points as a cushion or for a splurge.- my son made chocolate candy for Christmas gifts so that was my splurge last week!   I don't feel at all deprived - actually I feel great!  The best part of WW is

Connect- an online community of members sharing their stories, recipes and ideas.

It is inspiring and a big part of the success of many members.  And yes Oprah does

contribute on Connect- all  members are welcome !   No need for her to apologize for having a chef- that's just part of her story.   You'll find a supportive community on Connect!

They changed the program because you couldn't lose weight on the old one. You can't lose weight and be happy about what you eat, pretty much.

A lot of the promotions for boxed entrees and low quality desserts turned me off to weight watchers years ago. And Oprah ...yo yo dieter of the century still looks overweight after all this time? i'll pass...

Re: Weight Watcher Questions

The reason people are disappointed in WW is because since the advent of low carb plans, people are used to losing huge amounts of weight the first week.  When they don't lose weight as fast, they are disappointed.

WW (and NS and JC) have all tried to capture the "no tracking" and that first big week loss by going away from their core plan that was successful and profitable for many years.

All 3 have lost their way.

WW was the perfect first step for me and I don't regret a single penny I spent on it.  I've "graduated" to a healthier lifestyle and with all of the free resources out there, I don't need WW to tell me how much to eat anymore.

Did you ever have difficulty with website glitches for the online program?  The reviews are just awful and it's kept me away.  I've also read it's a major pain to cancel.  Could you log your foods and track points easily?

Re: Weight Watcher Questions

I've only experienced an occasional glitch- if I wait 15 minutes it resolves itself.

That's happened maybe 5 times since last Jan.   I use an ipad for WW most of the time-

occasionlly my PC.  I'm on Connect constantly- I track all my food- I have no problems

searching for points for food.  They also have great recipes with point values.

I log into Connect first thing each morning- for inspiration!   I really don't find

WW to be difficult to use and  I know I can get plenty of support from staff and

other members.    I've learned a lot about myself and my relationship with food.

My Insurance pays for 6 months of weight reduction program each year - you may want to look into that.

Don't let computer glitches stop you from trying- there is support for that!

Good luck and you are worth it!

Re: Weight Watcher Questions

@Noel7 IMO, the easiest way to lose weight is to limit ones daily calorie intake to 1,200. (for women, more for men). I am addicted to sweets like many, but learned to like sugar free pudding, etc. I went to Jenny Craig once and was successful, but put the weight back on. The food is delicious and is based on 1,200 calories for women. Right now I am giving the WW points program another try because I have the calculator. I dropped out last summer after a short time because of a six month issue with my knee. If it doesn't work for me, I will begin calorie counting again. That way, I can have whatever I want as long as I stay under 1,200 calories.

Yes; this is true.

I liked it better before, but I renewed to stay on track.  I have lost 33 pounds, but it has taken over a year.

Congratulations @faeriemoon !!!

Do you now have to eat less or give up things you could have a couple of years ago?

@Noel7  I'd say you have to give up the things that you really like (or crave) because they have redistributed the points to the extent that it's not worth it to have a sweet or treat.  Carbs of any kind have been assigned more points, so anything that helps you feel full is generally bad.

@Noel7That is not true!  Light bread (Sara Lee Delight) is still only 1 point per slice.  Potatoes are really low too!  A 10 oz. (raw weight) potato only has 6 points.  That is a huge potato!!!

It is the items that have sugar that skyrocketed in points.  They want you to discourage you from eating sugar.  It is bad for you and it is addictive!

Since meats are low in points, fruits and veggies are free, you can have lots to eat if you choose wisely!

3 oz. of white meat turkey is only 1 point  and a chicken breast only has 1 points!

We have a wonderful group of people in our little town.  I am losing slow, but I have also cheated quite a bit.  I'm down about 28 pounds in a year.  Keep in mind I am 60.  I think older people lose slower and I have also been a yo-yo dieter all my life since age 13.
