@Moonchilde wrote:@SunValley - if you see the latest post in a thread where a poster simply types in the word *Bump* and contributes nothing else, or states "I'm bumping this up" or "I'm bumping this thread because I want people to respond" - that is trolling behavior - posting on a long-dead thread *for the sole purpose* of putting it in view again, usually for trollish purposes.
If someone comes upon an old thread and has a question or comment directly related to the topic, that contributes in some way to the topic, that's different.
It would solve a lot of extra work for the moderators if they did simply close a thread for commenting after, say, 2 weeks. But there are quite a few things that could be done on the forums that aren't - and most of the time it's not a question of moderators' wants, but tools that QVC declines to provide for their own reasons.
Hi, @Moonchilde! Long time no see!
I agree with most of your post. However, if a thread is really old it's considered bumping to move it up even if it's done with an informative new post with related material. "Really old" is very subjective, however... I have no idea what a cut-off date would be for determining if the thread is too old to resurrect and if a new one should be started. I also think some of us have become wary of starting new threads and for that reason might choose to add to an existing thread, even if it's old, instead of creating a new one and then ducking from the inevitable slings and arrows.

I agree with chickenbutt that it might bring pain to some to see an old thread resurrected, for instance if a poster had posted about a death or serious illness in the family. I am in agreement with not allowing them to be bumped up.
Noel, I see no reason at all that you couldn't start a similar thread either here or in Wellness. I don't think the moderators would mind as you are truly wanting to discuss the topic not restart an earlier thread. I am sure that some who didn't participate in that thread would appreciate the information as well.
And sidsmom, I must humbly agree with your observation. I have read old threads and seen a reply that I thought was so funny, so clever, so smart, exactly what I would say
and it was ME ! Hahhahahah

Noel: Years and years ago, a N/P suggested M*trin and it worked/works! For me, anyway. Knocked out the pain almost immediately. Something about prostogandulins? (sp?) or something similar that she explained to me a hundred years ago. Start it at early onset, and continue as it begins to wear off. I only took a half of a pill each time. With food or immed. after food. Hope this helps. I didn't read the original poofed thread, btw. ........Edited to say that they are called PROSTAGLANDINS (related to menstrual cramps, etc.)

Hi @ROMARY
Thanks, but it's pretty serious, continual periods, almost non stop, debilitating pain. She has seen three specialists and had several testing procedures. The cancer tests were negative, nothing unusual internally.
A couple of women reported similar problems.

I'm sorry to read about this, @Noel7. As @minkbunny (waving hello, and I hope all is well with you!
) said, even though I'm not much of an advocate of the medical advice dispensed on these forums perhaps a thread in Wellness would generate helpful replies.

I understand your position on medical advice, but sometimes someone else has seen the one doctor, or one of a few, who knows what it is and what can be done. When there is a lead, it can be followed up on, even online at times.

Hi, @dooBdoo!
I think the thing is, except for rare instances like Noel7 wanting to read and perhaps ask a question, almost every resurrected old thread - say older than 2 months but most are much, much older - is deliberate trolling. Most posters, especially newer posters looking for a topic, could not or would not bother with a Search (which IMO is pretty much a joke on these forums). They would just start a new thread.
It takes at least some effort and will (the latter being more important IMO) to find old threads to resurrect. Out of say 20 old threads I have seen resurrected, only 1-2 were not trolls IMO.
And I'm as guilty as the next person about not checking dates, so I always appreciate someone giving a head's up about a thread being old.

ITA @Moonchilde
I never thought to check the date, I was just so glad to stumble upon possible information.

Hi Doobeeedooooo.... ![]()
Always good to "see" you as well. We are doing great, just so very busy - for such old people! ![]()
Butch just said the other day, we really need to head out for a romantic getaway for a few days - I said, Uh, When would we fit that in? He said, good point! But, I grabbed his face and kissed him for even wanting to take me on a rendezvous.
I am sure when the weather cools off and there isn't so much to do around here, we will slip away. ![]()
Hope this finds you well.

Much of what docs learn is from her/his patients' experiences. What has worked, what hasn't. I've 'taught' several of them though my personal experiences. We all learn from others' experiences. Doesn't hurt to 'hint' or ask our docs about 'this and that' re: what we read online here. jmo
