Re: Verizon Employee Suspended For Rescuing Cat

The employee's heart was in the right place but Verizon is right to take safety compliance seriously.  Those rules are for a reason.  And there were other ways to save the cat, which was [probably] not in imminent danger.  I think three weeks without pay is too harsh but I appreciate that Verizon made a donation to the SPCA.  Two GoFundMe pages set-up to help the worker have raised in excess of $10k.

@CrazyDaisy Hehhhhhhhh!!! I see how you got your handle.😊

@sidsmom I am not disagreeing with you regarding his actions.

What I am saying is not where I live.  It is a rare instance where our 5 person police force would help or even offer resource information.  There is virtually no willingness to help domestic or wild animals in need unless you happen to come across a good soul.

@Allegheny  I am truly sorry you must endure apathy toward help for domestic or wild creatures by your police.....

He should have only received a warning.  No one would help, but he did.  I agree with the poster who said talk is cheap.  And what's wrong with all the people who are supposed to do the rescuing?

Re: Verizon Employee Suspended For Rescuing Cat

12 hours or more is a long time for the cat to be up there. Poor thing.

Hope the cat lover finds a better job and leaves Verizon.

Re: Verizon Employee Suspended For Rescuing Cat

I appreciate you have far fewer choices in a less populated area, @Allegheny .

But this occurred in a large city, and the owner had already notified the power co., fire dept., and animal rescue while cat was enjoying the great view.

Those three agencies would've coordinated their efforts to make a safe rescue. The street would've been blocked off, power would've been shut down to the immediate area, traffic would've been redirected.

There was time for this because the animal wasn't in immediate danger. The fact it was up there 12 hours makes me ask if it ran up there at dusk, and did the owner wait until morning to summon help?

Perhaps owner prevailed upon the Verizon worker to avoid a municipal fine, or rescue fee?

How would people have responded to this thread if the headline was

'Verizon employee fatally electrocuted during rescue attempt'? - and then read the other services had already been summoned, but just hadn't arrived on the scene yet.

The cat should have known better.  Hope she learned her lesson.

@GenXmuse

Yes indeed because a human's life and well being always becomes before an animals.  I would never want or expect a person to risk his job or well being for a cat.  He's not an animal control officer, he's not a fireman and the cat most likely would make it's way down.

If one is worried about the employee,

there was a GoFundMe for him..

raising over $10,000 in 2 separate accounts.
