I wonder how many folks that really ARE cooking meth buy their Sudafed at the store to begin with? Not many, I'd think.

About 9 or so years ago, I came out of shopping at an Albertson's grocery store up in WA & out in the parking lot in one of the medians, was a big garbage bag full of empty cartons & packaging of Sudafed type meds that someone had most likely shoplifted in large quantities from various stores in the area & then, got back to a car & popped them all out of the boxes & packages & then took the pills/capsules back home to do whatever they do with them & left the empties there in the bag. This was before they started putting this stuff behind the counters at stores & when we 1st started hearing about this kind of stuff. I went back inside to Albertson's & informed the manager of what was laying out in his parking lot, but I'm not sure what happened or if he called the police.

CVS says I cannot get my new script because my script is dated from this past Friday (October 3). That I MUST get one dated now. (Well I only see my pain Dr monthly so he writes the script out when I see him with NO refills until I see him again next month)

Why is CVS doing this? Because as of October 6th they said they will NOT take any more of narcotic scripts before October 6 due to new laws in classifying my narcotic pain reliever.

I kid you not. I have my paper right here from CVS. They used to take scripts from 6 months ago!

This is due to a crack down on narcotic pain relievers due to abusers.

Yeah well Im not one of those people! Every single level of my spine is destroyed except the 2 levels where I have plates and screws and I have the MRIs (11 of them over 13 years!) too prove it.

I am a legitimate chronic pain patient for 13 years who lives by the rules and laws. I see my pain team monthly. I only take my medicines as prescribed and I undergo urine tests from my pain team to prove that. I undergo painful shots in my spine all the time.

I have a call into my pain team about this since my script is from Friday. Even though its time for my refill, I DO have extra meds because I DONT over take them and when I get shots I DONT need to take them!

But I feel bad for the many patients who are being turned away because their scripts are before October 6th and need their pain medicines now!

And frankly Im sick of being treated poorly for being a chronic pain patient. Its not my fault people over take their medicine and lie. I don't do that.

I see legitimate Drs and live by the law. In fact I was given a stronger pain reliever the beginning of this year and didn't feel comfortable taking it (due to it making me groggy), so I STOPPED taking it, and went back to my old LOWER dose medicine combination!

And my script is from 5 DAYS ago. Its not old, and Im not trying to get my medicine too soon as its due for refill now.

So they are cracking down on the WRONG people!

Shorty, so sorry you are going through this. Ask your dr. when he is writing out your scripts, to leave the date blank.

Re: Unbelievable! (prescriptions)

Just have them (CVS) call your doctor for a new script. Problem solved.

Re: Unbelievable! (prescriptions)

Sorry but it doesn't matter. Insurance companies are cracking down on too early refills, and are even harder on narcotics. They have to. It's costing millions now to cover meds.

Beside, too many "legal" prescriptions are getting in the wrong hands, and the insurance companies are not going to take the wrap.

Everyone should stop complaining and be grateful people are trying to control these drugs considering the problem we are having in America today. So you have to go to a little extra trouble....big deal. It may save lives, stop bellyaching, we all have to do it. Really, is it asking you to do so much to get your fix ????

Re: Unbelievable! (prescriptions)

Doctors are NOT going to leave script dates blank..especially on controlled drugs..

CVS cannot call the Doctor..it is a controlled drug..you need legal hard copy in hand.

That is what this is about..cutting down on all the fraud, doctor and pharmacy shopping..

I am just surprised that neither the OP nor the MD were not on top of the new laws..I did a simple google search yesterday and it was clearly stated that the DEA and State were not clear and pharmacies were making all patients have new scripts dated on 10/6 or after..Nothing earlier would be no longer honored.

The MD being a Pain Management MD should of been totally on top of this.

What a waste of red tape and time. People who are in pain should get the medications they need without all the government nonsense. So what if some people overmedicate, who is it harming other than themselves? Instead they are forced to resort to street drugs which ends up filling the jails and costing taxpayers money that could be spent on something beneficial to all of us.

You know..I tend to agree with you..
