@just bee,  I'm glad you are still checking in and keeping us posted amid all your busy activity in the aftermath of the fire.

Thinking of you, and hope you, hubby and canine get settled in a rental (representing at least some return to 'normalcy') very soon....

I just got back to the hotel with our dog.  Better-half is still at the house with the inspection/investigation team.  We found out yesterday the car company would be there this morning to take the vehicle.  Then we found out this morning that the fire investigator, the representative from the car company and an expert from Colorado would all be at the house and this process would take all day.

We were there bright and early; unfortunately, I have to work tonight so I came back to the hotel, hoping to catch a little sleep before my 12.5-hour shift.

The garage has been boarded up and quarantined since the fire and everything's been on hold until now.  Hope they wrap up soon and figure it all out.  It'll be between the car company and our insurance company.

Had to open the house for the team so they could take photos.  Got another look at all the things that are headed for landfill.

Don't get attached to stuff.

What a painful process!  And, you are still working.

I am exhausted just thinking about what you've been through, and the emotional roller coaster.

Even though you've suffered a terrible setback, I hope that, somehow, you come out ahead of all of it.  It would be overwhelming for even the strongest person!

I agree, don't get attached to things.  And, I truly am not.  Think I could walk away from the house with only an overnight bag, and the little framed "story" of how our house came to be.

DH and I built it together over 4 years, along with a smaller home next door for my parents.  We were young and strong and it was quite an adventure.  I tear up even now thinking about it.

We told our story and thanked all involved, then framed it for posterity.  It hangs in our front all.

Other than a change of clothes and my skincare, that's all I would take.

@just bee, I am wishing you a beautiful new home, with everything you need for your comfort.  I can bet this will be your treasure following all the pain and heartbreak you have gone through.  My best wishes to you, your DH, and doggie, too.

I understand - my father never threw anything out and at some point could not live alone and I moved him in with me.  At that time, my siblings and I cleaned out his house and tossed out all kinds of stuff.  He was of the generation that "you never know - someone may need that someday".   Because of that, I have always been a minimalist and constantly get rid of things I know I'll never use.

I moved here 3 years ago - it's a one level house half the size of my last home - nothing makes one downsize like moving!  BTW, when we were cleaning out dad's house there were the good dishes, good silver, etc and my nieces/nephews (millenials) don't want any of that stuff.  I think a lot of that generation isn't into "collecting or holding onto things".

Perhapys your husband is sharing a second life with ME Cat LOL

DH saves bubble wrap, so that gives you an idea where we are in the scheme of things.  Oy, it drives me bonkers.

He has a HUGE garage that is completely out of control (by my standards), but he says he knows where everything is.  I think it's just gotten away from him and he will NEVER admit that.

Like you, I've told him if he goes before me, I'm calling a few of his friends to take what they want, and then having someone come in and empty the place.

For now, that is HIS place, so I leave it alone.

The house is MY domain, so I can control that.

I understand how you feel Cat Happy

I have little to no control w/even the house. He can be a real tyrant.
