"Airabelle" is a crowd favorite.

"Beagle Maximus" made a special appearance in September at the grand opening of our new Westside dog park.

I better get out and look -- they're inflating a few despite the wind this morning!

This one, "Cent'r Stage," is inflating this morning  along with "Airabelle."  It's beautiful out there: A odd cloud pattern obscuring the sun and cool temperatures.  But I can feel the wind in my driveway.

I'm so happy the balloonists have decided to inflate.  They probably won't be flying today, but at least the crowd will see a variety of Special Shapes.  Van Gogh, too! Woman Very Happy

I heard yesterday that Arabelle, the Creamland Dairy cow, is the largest balloon and due to its shape, is very unstable.  It flies only under perfect conditions.  I was out early one morning years ago and it was right over my parent's house and very low.  I called and told them to go out and see the cow above them.  She's from British Columbia.

She's a big girl at 910 pounds.  I've seen her fly but it doesn't happen very often.  That's why I was surprised to see her inflated this morning.

They kept a static display up for a long time before the balloons started deflating.  But it's sure a beautiful day to walk the dog!

Not expecting any events tonight, though.  Winds will increase and we might get some rain.

It's getting hard to find this video online with its soundtrack.  This is a timelapse video of the fiesta and it's probably my favorite because it really captures the event.  The music really works with it.

Re: They're Up, Up and Away in Albuquerque Today

We just got back from Albuquerque.  We had hoped to go to the evening glow but it was cancelled due to weather.   DH and I walked around Old Town while our visiting friend went on one of the Breaking Bad tours.   She had fun and so did we.

Thanks for posting pictures.   We hope to get back over there this week for a morning or evening event but the weather is dicey on and off all week.

It was on our bucket list and went in 2016.  Wonderful experience.  We paid for the Gondola Club and it was worth every penny!    Luckily our first morning session had perfect weather and most of the balloons went up.  Everyone should attend if they can.

Just keep an eye on the event schedule and the weather reports.  The next three days (MTW) have no afternoon or evening events.  Thursday and Friday are the best days (weather permitting) because of the Special Shape Rodeo (AM) and Glowdeo (PM).  Saturday will be the last full day before Sunday's Farewell Mass Ascension.

Also keep in mind that the local TV stations cover the fiesta in the morning (full coverage on all stations on weekends, less coverage on weekdays).  I turn it on first thing in the morning and when I see a favorite balloon inflating, I run outside and watch from my driveway.
