@cheriere that is so neat!  I was born and raised in southwest Ohio and never heard of the Rolling Store but sure do wish we had one back then!  We lived out in the country and it was a big deal going into town to shop!  Lol

Dont you wish life was still that simple?

Thank you for sharing!💖

Lol, I know just what you mean.  I grew up in the country and I can remember when mom and I would go to town Saturday morning.  I looked so forward to that too.  It would be nice if things could be that simple again.💝🌸

I lived in a medium size town and as a child I remember the Milk Man.  Mom bought milk, chocolate milk, orange drink and banana split ice cream.  To this day I have not found an ice cream as good as that banana split ice cream.  My first job was with an attorney and we had a client K  C Diary (won't complete the name) who was the company that operated the milk truck.  Ironic

Also had the bread man and Mom bought such good things from him.  Then there was the Atlantic & Pacific tea company that sold from a van many items - not tea.

We had stores uptown a few blocks from home where Mom could have bought milk, bread, the green grocers, the meat store and other stores (before supermarkets the stores were individual.)

Since Mom didnt drive, it was convenient to get these things from the traveling trucks.

That sure sounds nice.😊💝. My grandma didn't drive whenever they lived in Ohio.  My mom says she remembers when they'd walk to get various things, of course it wasn't too far since they lived in town.

She still says she can't find bread in a bakery here half as good as the one they used to go to in Ohio to get all the bread at.  It would sure be nice if we could still get things brought to our homes like that and it didn't cost an arm and a leg lol.💝🌸

@cheriere  How interesting your post is. I've never heard of this. I didn't grow up in the country though either.  Nowadays it's waiting for our Amazon deliveries coming down the street, nowhere near as fun as a rolling store. Thanks for sharing this memory.

Anytime you get ready to head this way, let me know!  Ohio has some of the BEST theme parks, if it's roller coasters you love.  Cedar Point and Kings Island are a blast!❤️

@cheriere  That sounds like an absolute blast! I love amusement parks- when I go to Ohio someday I'll let you know Smiley Very HappyHeart.  I want to ride fast roller coasters and feel the wind in my hair!

You're welcome.  I didn't know if many here had ever heard of such a thing,  I've been trying to get my mom to share a lot of her memories with me.❤️

@cheriere @SportyShorty07   I love these stories.  A quick story about our milkman.  My mom hurt her back one week, and Sam, the milkman, would come into the house and put those big glass bottles of milk in the fridge.  One Easter our cousins were here, and that Monday everyone was having breakfast.  Here comes Sam, putting the milk in the fridge. My aunt and uncle, thought who is this?  Just walks in your house?  The good old days were good.

My mom made ambrosia every Easter and I have not had it in many, many years.  Grapes, oranges, apple, pineapple, a few marishino cherries, walnuts, coconut made with heavy whipping cream.  I might have to make some.  It was soooo good.  I totally forgot about this holiday dish.  Thanks @SportyShorty07.

I LOVE ❤️ that story about the milkman 😂.  It's so true, those were the good old days.

I felt the same way when I read @SportyShorty07  ambrosia recipe.  My grandmother used to always make it for special occasions.  I haven't had any in several long.  I think I'm gonna make some too.💝🌸

Thank you so much for sharing your story.  I was hoping others would share something they remembered.🌸

My grandfather was what used to be called a "customer peddler" in NYC. More or less a traveling salesman, but all his customers were in the Bronx with a few in Manhattan. This was from the 1940's to the late 1960's. He sold dry goods - sheets, towels, blankets, bedspreads, custom draperies and slipcovers. He had a route and regular customers. Most paid a little bit weekly until they were paid up. He must have done well as he and my grandmother managed to raise 3 sons and buy a house. Once my father and his brothers were old enough, they were sent on the rote to deliver merchandise and collect weekly payments.

@cheriere

Thanks for sharing these nostalgic photos, reminds me of a movie called 'A Walk on the Moon' with Liev Schreiber and Diane Lane who falls in love with a salesman who travels from one resort to another selling 'clothing' from his truck, I thought, how cool is that!  Have you seen this movie takes place in the late '60's.
