I'm worried about the millions and millions in the direct path of the storm in FL. My SIL in Chapel Hill hasn't mentioned a thing. I wonder if she's not planning on having any terrible weather from it.

@teganslaw wrote:@Shanus , doesn't the wedding planner have to sign a contract before starting? I don't know how she could back out at the last minute. You might as well call yourself a wedding planner and charge more money accordingly.
I still think that the best idea for anyone is to elope or get married with as few people as possible. Not worth all the headaches, especially since one doesn't know if the marriage will last. But then Shanus wouldn't have a job.
@teganslaw They do sign a contract that includes finding the venue, doing invitations, flowers, etc., but brides need to read the fine print. It usually states that if the time or situations change, they are no longer involved in alternate arrangments. Yep, it's true.
They're usually a one and done service....especially now that they're still catching up from covid canceled weddings. They fit in as many engagements as possible and the being responsible factor goes out the window.

@Mj12 Central NC not expecting a direct hit, just rain and wind with possible flooding in low areas.

I have family in Clearwater and they said they are up high enough in their building and are staying.

@Isobel Archer FEMA with its funds is already in place as are local services and the big power companies have their own staffs standing ready and many companies from elsewhere have already moved trucks closer.
I've lived in 2 very diffferent kinds of hurricane-prone areas. Sadly, sending rescuers into those areas where early evacuation is ordered wouldn't be an order I would care to give. Fortunately hundreds of thaousands living in those areas began moving even before the orders came. That helps everyone.

Yes poor victim, as opposed to the actual real victims of this hurricane. All those questions and more are asked of all officials before a natural disaster, if they can't face that they have no business being in those jobs.

My daughter's inlaws secured their FL home, loaded up both cars with belongings and drove to NC to stay with friends. They left over the weekend. They knew what was barreling at them so they didn't wait. The blessing is that hurricanes and storms don't come as a surprise anymore. There's time to prepare and evacuate.

If they're "up high enough" they need to think that if power goes out the elevators won't work. Then being up high means long walks down and tiring walks up if they have to go out for supplies or food. They can become isolated up there if they need medical help.
Those conditions could last a week or more. If there is damage to the building and it is delayed in repairs it might become unsafe anywhere in the building and they could be required to leave. So lugging belongings all the way down and finding shelter might be a new worry. Or by that time shelters may be full. Wouldn't it have been better to leave for safety in advance?
I certainly hope they stay safe and do not have to regret the decision to stay. But they may find the very same high location has disadvantages and dangers that should have been weighed. Have they ever sat out a hurricane in a high floor apartment?
I hope everyone in or near the direct path of this big hurricane stays safe and comes out of it unharmed.
