Re: !!!! THE PERFECT STORM !!!!

Praying for everyone in the path of Ian.  Stay safe and also praying for all the animals too. The shelters are already full, so quite a few rescue groups are flying out animals at the shelters to make room for rescued animals from the hurricane. The animals being flown out are going to states up north - NY, NJ, CT.  Praying to God to keep all human and animal life safe.

Yes, I guess I'd do that with a propane stove too.  But I think she was asking about a kitchen range because she specifically mentioned the electric ignition.  My gas range in my kitchen has electric ignition.  Do propane stoves have that too?

@Shanus , doesn't the wedding planner have to sign a contract before starting? I don't know how she could back out at the last minute. You might as well call yourself a wedding planner and charge more money accordingly.

I still think that the best idea for anyone is to elope or get married with as few people as possible. Not worth all the headaches, especially since one doesn't know if the marriage will last. But then Shanus wouldn't have a job.

@teganslaw   They do sign a contract that includes finding the venue, doing invitations, flowers, etc., but brides need to read the fine print. It usually states that if the time or situations change, they are no longer involved in alternate arrangments. Yep, it's true.

They're usually a one and done service....especially now that they're still catching up from covid canceled weddings. They fit in as many engagements as possible and the being responsible factor goes out the window.

A professional wedding planner, whose business depends on positive reviews, would never quit just because things need to be rearranged.

@paixmcdao   You're absolutely right, but they're in short supply now since Covid. With no weddings to plan for almost 2 yrs., many found other jobs or professions. Now, florists, caterers, etc. are doing double duty and some are not trained to handle last minute "emergencies" or just don't care.

It sounds like you have it all together and you are prepared.  That is a good thing.  I could never live in Florida with the threat of Hurricanes and how they can turn on a diime and head right to you.

True, but there is a lot more advance warning for a hurricane than there is for tornadoes or earthquakes - which can also do massive damage.

@Isobel Archer

That's true.  A tornado blew off the river from a thunderstorm in our area and we live up-river by a few miles, and it headed straight to us and there was no time for warnings.  There had been warnings in the area of the T&L storms but the way the tornado suddenly arose, no warning and many people, fortunately, were in church and the tornado totally skipped over the church, the elementary school and into the neighborhood, taking out swaths of houses and sparing some.  Fortunately, we were spared.  I heard a sound like an airplane just whirring and sitting over my house and it scared me that an airplane would be doing that and then it moved on and we realized that a tornado had taken out neigbors' houses.

Re: !!!! THE PERFECT STORM !!!!

I'm sitting here in Ohio watching new coverage of the storm rolling through, and just so heartbroken for everyone in the path of this thing.

When I was a child and young adult in the 60's through the 80's, my grandparents and great aunts and uncles all retired to or wintered in Fort Myers. All of them have since passed, and we only have one relative left in that general area. I'm so glad none of them are having to deal with this.

Prayers for everyone dealing with this, and all they will be dealing with in the months to come.

@shoesnbags  It have a Bosch dual fuel range.  Propane four burner cooktop with electric oven.  We use the bbq lighter to light during power outages.  It has electric ignition normally.  Hope this explains it.  LM

Re: !!!! THE PERFECT STORM !!!!

I have family in the Tampa area but they are inland and high enough to escape any serious flooding in their home.  I am worried about them though and pray they don't have any terrible outcomes.  They have not evacuated.

I also have a condo which I co-own with my brother in the Ft. Lauderdale area.  It should be fine since they are only experiencing a tropical storm and not the full wrath of a major hurricane.  I haven't been able to go down there for some time due to several family issues and hope that everything is okay.  I hope to get there over the winter.

I'm not at all familiar with that type of range, so I hope you don't mind a few questions.  Around here, natural gas is readily available.  My house was built over 50 years ago with gas lines in the kitchen in addition to electrical connections.

So I'm asking out of total ignorance - does one buy a propane cooktop because you want to cook with gas but there's no gas hook-up at your house?  I guess this must be common if there are ranges made this way, but I just had no knowledge of it.  Do you have a propane tank outside to supply your range? Around here the only propane tanks I see are for BBQ grills, so I'm curious how it all works.  Thanks!
