Re: 🤔 Stuffing or Dressing?

My mother was British. My father was career military so we lived all over and were exposed to lots of regional cuisine. I only like dressing, specifically cornbread dressing baked in a pan. I really dislike stuffing. It is soft and wet, not crispy on the top and sides like cornbread dressing. The idea and the sight of stuffing inside a turkey is sickening to me....no offense to those who like it.

Re: 🤔 Stuffing or Dressing?

It was always stuffing in our house growing up!!!  Not stove top either--- everything from scratch.  Don't get me wrong --- I like stove top sometimes and am lazy so I do make this.

Re: 🤔 Stuffing or Dressing?

I've enjoyed the memories coming from this thread!

Mine is of my mother using her rolling pin to crush Vermont common crackers for the stuffed bird, with . . . was it Mrs. Bell's poultry seasoning?  And a little butter but mostly the bird drippings imparted a turkey flavor.

Over the years, cooking light, I lost my grip on my mother's gravy procedure, but fortunately my sister was able to coach me through the gravy part last year, when I had a few guests.  Tasting it was well worth the calories--it was almost like time-travelling back to my childhood.

Re: 🤔 Stuffing or Dressing?

Trisha Yearwood just said she grew up calling it dressing; she’s adding apples and chestnuts to hers.
