Re: Starbucks' Cup Controversy

Well, I don't give my money to Starbucks so I don't know: did they used to have a Christmassy themed cup before?

It's a cup...holding something you drink...that you toss in the garbage. Who cares what's on the cup?

Do other food/drink places have Christmassy stuff on their cups?

I have NEVER noticed it so, yeah. WAY too much time with nothing to do of THIS gets you angry lol. In fact, I WISH this was the only thing that I had to be upset about. ******.

@NoelSeven December 25th is Christmas celebration.

We all know it's a season, not a day.  People are complaining about the cups out now, not on the 25th.

There's a lot more to this time of year than Christmas.  Chanukah came before Christmas, and now we have Thanksgiving and other holidays.

Why do some demand it be exclusively all about us?  We look ridiculous doing that.

No business owes us special treatment and privilege.

No business owes anyone special treatment and privilege.  And this is where the people who are annoyed with our society becoming increasingly PC refuse to understand it has everything to do with being inclusive in a country with very diverse beliefs.  These (religious) fanatics are single-minded and would like to see everyone adhere to their beliefs...and that is the epitome of arrogance, ignorance, and perhaps even bigotry.

I find it rather humorous that people who want to be thought of as oh so Christian-like do not see they are telling everyone, basically, that THEIR religion is the only one that counts.    SMH

Not really; more like winter and Santa. So what's the reason they took those things off? Is that what has people so pissed?!

Re: Starbucks' Cup Controversy

This is just fascinating: Christmas In Japan.

Christmas is getting bigger than ever in Japan, but it's not about religion.  As reported, the Japanese love festivals and they love the traditions they have created around Christmas.

There are a lot of Asian immigrants in the Bay Area, many love Christmas, but it's a secular holiday for them.

Re: Starbucks' Cup Controversy

[ Edited ]

Being an April baby, an Aries, and a Catholic, I was always raised to know that December wasn't actually the birthday of Christ. It merely merged with the ancient winter celebrations already in place by the pagans. It was a very effective tactic in converting the masses as they so loved those celebrations which were already so ingrained into the culture.

Most authorities tend to place the actual birth of the historical Jesus in Spring, often April 12th as the specific day. Hence He's most likely an Aries like me. And we all know what that means.  Smiley LOL

I mean, He showed his Arian self when He disappeared at 12 leaving His mother and father to fret and again especially later in life when He flipped the tables of the coin collectors at the temple (like Teresa Giudice on a mission). lol

Just teasing.

But the date barely matters. If one celebrates Christmas, it only truly exists within one's heart and not all that importantly on one's calendar of events.

Re: Starbucks' Cup Controversy

I haven't read this whole thing, but to me if you want a Christian Christmas mug, go buy one.  They are all over the place.  I feel like we have enough choice in this country, as it should be, to buy something that represents whatever faith you want.  That's the way it is supposed to be.

When someone trys to prohibit a retail outlet from selling a religious item, I would have a problem with that.  Starbucks doesn't owe anyone a Christian mug; or a Hindu mug; or a Jewish mug.

I make it a point to ignore businesses with my Christmas purchases who don't wish to outwardly recognize December 25th is a celebration of Christmas. They make their money off the holiday, it' the least they can do.

Okay, I give up .... just what businesses "don't outwardly recognize Christmas"?    Name three business, if you can ...

The reason I ask is because where I live many businesses had Christmas trees, lights, and all that, out before Halloween !!

There are many of us on this board who are Christian and have made no bones about it.  I'm one of them.  I know and respect the others I know of that are not as you describe.

I could list about a dozen off the top of my head, but I won't because although they have come out and said they are, it's their decision when and what to say.
