I don't see this having anything to do with PC.  Even though some mix religion and politics, we all know Christianity isn't politics, nor should it be.

In fact, I would not hesitate to speculate that MOST of America wishes those demanding we all adhere to the fanaticism of a few would just be quiet.

This "big" news story about the cups at Starbucks not being "Christmas enough" this year is ridiculous.

What do the ultra religious want, Jesus Christ on the cups?

There is a lot more things to complain about than the artwork on a cup.   Not all Starbucks' customers celebrate Christmas.   What would they say if the owner this year had only Hanukah cups?

I think when people can truly share the love that Christmas is supposed to be all about and be there for their fellow neighbors who are down and out or reach out and help someone or just be loving to each other, that is more important than the design on a dam@ cup!

With some religious fanatics, I suppose they'd also want to see the Coca-Cola Santa Claus hanging on a cross or something in all their advertising.

After a while, folks, God is God and a cuppa coffee is just a cuppa coffee. No one thinks one is being godless should one's bag of McDonald's fries not be decorated in the Blood of Christ.

To me, its people who are not only fanatical in their religion but (probably related to that) insecure in their religious beliefs who are led so far astray in what concerns them. Its such a misplaced focus on nothingness when there is so much a true (in this case) Christian can do to better the world and to serve others.

Take the STUPID energy in protesting a paper coffee cup and help the homeless or the lonely this Christmas season.

Could you show me exactly where in the Bible it states that Jesus was born on December 25th?

I 've looked, and I can't seem to find where it says that Jesus was born specifically on December 25th.

Thanks!

starbucks has a coffee called Christmas Blend.  They sell Christmas adornments for your tree.

Yes, they will offer product that makes them money. But, they don't wish it to be on their cups, b/c to be PC it may offend those who don't wish to be reminded of that.

THEY never did it before EITHER.  Has nothing to do with PC

Re: Starbucks' Cup Controversy

The birth of Jesus most likely took place in the Spring.  That's when the sheep were born and when the taxes were collected.

What Dan was referring to.

Roman pagans first introduced the holiday of Saturnalia, a week long period of lawlessness celebrated between December 17-25.  During this period, Roman courts were closed, and Roman law dictated that no one could be punished for damaging property or injuring people during the weeklong celebration.  The festival began when Roman authorities chose “an enemy of the Roman people” to represent the “Lord of Misrule.”

In the 4th century CE, Christianity imported the Saturnalia festival hoping to take the pagan masses in with it.  Christian leaders succeeded in converting to Christianity large numbers of pagans by promising them that they could continue to celebrate the Saturnalia as Christians.
