Re: Spot-on truths about some compliments

Better yet, suggest how you could help. When asked "how can I help" puts the onus on the person in need. "I'll do this or why don't I take care of that for you" much better to suggest a way to help out.

I went to my PC doctor last week and was excited to have her see my  weight loss on the scale.... 72 lbs so far.

Weight loss, plus exercise & Zumba have really made a difference in my blood work, so I looked forward to this visit.

The young PA (new to me ) weighed me and wrote in my chart.  Then she congratulated me saying: "Wow!  On the chart you are no longer morbidly obese, you are just plain obese!"

Talk about a pin in my balloon!  Oh well, the doctor and I had a good laugh about it later.

Omg...  So funny, yeah doctors do that...lol    Years ago after my weight loss surgery, I managed to lose 170lbs in a year.  I was dancing on air.  I knew the medical definition of obese, which I was but I was thrilled to no longer be morbidly obese.  When I saw my pcp, he was so happy and complimentary about how I looked and my labs and normal blood pressure and I said  "when I see you for my physical next year, I  won't be obese. I'll just be overweight".   Ever the doctor....he said  "Oh, you'll never lose that much weight".    Oh yeah,  just like you said, he let the air right out of my balloon...lol.  To get down to being  just overweight, I needed to lose 50 more lbs and  I knew I was not going to lose another 50 pounds.  But he certainly could have phrased it better...lol

Congratulations on your weight loss, that's fantastic.

Congratulations!!! And it says something to your character that you were able to laugh about it later with the dr. I may have been mad for days, because losing that much weight is no small feat. I've been losing and gaining back the same 10 lbs forever.

@DiAnne  when reading this list, I thought the exact same thing. Talk about the Grinch. I do not know who, or perhaps I should rephrase that as to What, comes up with these dictums, however, in following these lengthy items one would be forever silenced. I no longer listen to any of the so called experts on what they proclaim as truisms. I believe they have an agenda and I am sorry to see this list posted during the Holiday Season.

Re: Spot-on truths about some compliments

Wouldn't it be better to try to give someone a break for trying to be nice and assume that's what they were doing?

Wow.  You can't say anything today. . .

Re: Spot-on truths about some compliments

It getting so you can say anything to anyone because they will twist it into something else to meet whatever agenda they have.

IMO most people that say these things in one way or another are sincere and mean it as a compliment.

I feel sorry for people that think bless your heart is an insult.

There have been several times in my life that I would have liked to hear, you are a strong person instead of silence.

So if you are looking to be insulted you will be.  If not then

bless your heart.
