I think what some people are lamenting over is the loss of innocence/ignorance. What we know now we can't "un-know".

And to that degree life will never be the same.

As the poster above me said though, social distancing and changing our behaviors does not necessarily mean being locked down for the rest of our lives. Will we be likely to have life as we once had it? Doubtful. Fear and knowledge have interjected themselves, and they are impossible to shake. There is still joy to be had, and memories to be made.

And gratefully a life still to live.

@pitdakota wasn't there a variety of measles, the three day?, that one can get again and again. I believe there's a vaccine for it now. Is it Rubella?

@occasionalrain, Technically, the specific measles virus doesn't reoccur after infection.  However, there were cases where it was questioned if a child got a certain type of measles more than once.  Most at the time thought that either they had such a mild case that when exposed later, they didn't have the appropriate level of antibodies from having such a mild infection to provide immunity.  Other physicians questioned if a certain case of measles had been misdiagnosed when it had probably been an allergic reaction to a medication since the child turned out to be allergic to penicillin which was the most common thing back then.

The herpes virus is an example of a virus that can and does reactivate.

This woman hasn’t said anything that common sense and overthinking could tell us about what MAY happen. It’s not written in stone, it’s possibilities. Too much doom and gloom. Let’s try to take this one day at a time, otherwise we will worry every day of our lives, 24/7.

Taking it one day at a time is a big part of the reason we are where we are now.

We need to be proactive not reactive..  Yes, the report speaks to possibilities but if they aren't considered, evaluated and adjustments made as needed they will become fact..

I agree about being proactive and prefer to know the possibilities.  I definitely thought it would run into 2021, but didn't think of 2022.  One poster also mentioned how long it took to eradicate the flu pandemic.  I didn't know that.

Right now it just feels very intense.  It's all new to us.  I'm not sure it will have that intensity through 2022.

I don't understand the complaints about posters who are, in my opinion, kind to share whatever information is available. Not knowing helps no one. One day at a time is what keeps people putting up with bad situations hoping they will improve on their own. They seldom do, but miracles happen once in awhile.

Not knowing about the gloom and doom won't make it just go away.

@occasionalrain

The problem is that some posters pick one "lone wolf" with the best "doom and gloom" and post it as "gospel" and don't research the topic well..... meanwhile the majority of experts give a totally opposite view point but there's no mention of that by the poster...

This is just like someone posting a rumor on Facebook and everyone believes it just because it was posted on Facebook so it has to be true....and passes it on------ but come to find out it isn't even true at all!!! I wouldnt rely on what someone posts on a Blog on important information. I'd check things out myself from several reliable sources to get to the real truth.......sadly thats what you have to do in this day and age!  ......

So far all the early consensus about this virus have been way, way off. The number of expected cases/deaths and almost every other statistic. Remember when 250,000 were expected to die/several millions would need to be in ICU. I could quote more just not necessary.

Why were "they" so far off? I am pretty sure I know but don't want this thread to go poof! I can get that post virus is going to be much different and I will adjust. For anyone, expert or not, to say anything about 2 years down the road? I ain't buying it and will see it as a "maybe" educated guess.

I am always happy to see each tomorrow and I live 1 day at a time. In my life I have known many that prepared so well for their future, their lives ended before they had much of that future, some of them none! They never lived their "present" life, and to me that's sad.

This might be one reason the number of deaths was reduced.  Everyone I see in my area is complying when grocery shopping or out for a walk, but sounds like it's happening everywhere.

Said CDC Director Robert Redfield: “The models underestimated the extent to which Americans would embrace the recommendations and engage in social distancing.”

Original estimates for compliance were put at around 50%, but in the end, “compliance to the message has been in excess of 90%.”

They say it themselves, it's too soon to know what trajectory things will take. Given that, speculation isn't at all helpful and, in fact, some might say it's destructive and irresponsible. All these 'studies' being floated out there that are qualified to within an inch of their rather meaningless lives are premature.
