So frustrated with Frontier Communications.

I live in a rural part of West Virginia. Frontier is our only choice for internet and land line phones.

At least once a week our WiFi is out and we have problems with the land line phones as we try to make calls and they won’t go through. People answer our calls and say they can’t hear us.

So this morning we had no WiFi and a little bit ago I did a live chat with frontier and their response was “ we understand there is no service right now for people in the 304 area code.” I then replied “ so it’s out in all of WV?” They replied “yes.” I then replied that the school I work at 6 miles from my home has WiFi and then he changed his story and said “well, it’s affecting some but not others and our engineers are aware of the problem.”

I told them this is a problem weekly and that there was already a class action lawsuit against them as Frontier was charging customers for high speed internet but high speed internet was not what the customer was receiving and I would have thought that things would get better after that.

I am frustrated because Frontier is the only choice we have for land line phones also.

Sorry for the rant.

I feel your pain @wvumountiefan.  My parents only choice where they live (rural upstate NY) is Frontier and it is just as unreliable as you are experiencing.  Frequently unreliable.

I used to live in areas where Frontier was my only choice too.  Then I moved to a more urban area and experienced the JOY of Spectrum (Time Warner initially).  When everyone else was complaining about Spectrum pricing and speed, I was sitting back, enjoying blazing fast Internet, compared to what I was used to.  I remain thankful for the service I get, and I even think the price is fair.

I wish I had a more encouraging story, but I just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

@wvumountiefan,

I am in the southern end of the state, not far from the Virginia line, and totally agree Frontier needs to step up and give us the quality of service we are paying for.

It was my understanding that once fraud was uncovered in the lack of “high speed” internet, the Federal government got involved and was overseeing Frontier’s compliance in updating their internet connections.   New fiber optic cable was run thru this County 2+ years ago, but our internet is still wonky from time to time.

Frontier definitely needs competition.

Re: So frustrated with Frontier Communications.

I don't have Frontier for my internet, etc. but I did receive a few shares of its stock in a spin-off.  In the last year that stock lost more than 80% of its value.  Glad they didn't give me many shares so I did not lose all that much.   My brokerage doesn't even list them on my portfolio right now

Maybe they will be bought out by another company that will provide better service to all who have them.  I hope so -  I doubt they're going to survive.

Re: So frustrated with Frontier Communications.

@wvumountiefan   Frontier provides my internet service, but ONLY because they are the best of the worst in my area.  Their front line customer service is the worst I have EVER experienced in my 67 years of life.  I will not attempt to describe the 7-month billing nightmare of erroneous charges and subsequent service cutoff, and the massive online chat documentation I maintained.  Instead, I will strongly recommend that you file an online complaint with the FCC.  It is VERY easy, and the company is required to respond/resolve within 30 days; otherwise, the fines imposed on them could be massive.  Companies take these complaints very seriously and, hence my issues were ultimately resolved within minutes.  I have not had a minute's trouble since.  Here is the link to file a complaint.  Good luck.

I had them for my land line for many years.  Then I tried to get internet service through them.  It didn't work, they kept charging me for service I wasn't getting and my blood pressure was soaring.     I began to think that Frontier was a front... for something else. I finally dumped them.  Fortunately, i had other options.  It took more than 3 months to get my deposit back.  I got several bills with the credit balance and complained again and again to everyone at their company that I could find a name and address for.   The service was no longer in use, but they sent me a bill showing a credit balance.   Now all I use is my Tracfone.

Have you considered contacting their CFO, CEO etc and sending emails and/or snail mails to everyone with copies to the Federal Trade Commission and your congressmen?  It might not improve things but will definitely make you feel less of a victim.

Edited to add:  Upstate NY location.  Time-Warner, now Spectrum has improved tremendously.

I'm in CT in an area where Frontier is the only option, and I agree they are one of the worst companies of any kind to deal with.  And their service is terrible too.

Re: So frustrated with Frontier Communications.

Hmm. My son lives in a small village, and uses Frontier as he's on a budget and it's the cheapest. He's supposed to get 6mbps, and barely gets 1 mbps.  I'm about to move to his town, and thanks to this thread, I may or may not use Frontier. In order to stream what I'm interested in, I need 4 mpbs.

Another option I will have is Mediacom, but they're not very forthcoming with their prices on their website.

@wvumountiefan, I am in western NC and in essentially the same situation as you with Frontier.

If I were to post my thoughts about Frontier not only would I be permanently banned from Q I would be permanently banned from the entire WWW.
