It is definately NOT specific enough to jump to a conclusion like that. Both my cousin - my father's twin brother's daughter and I both came out to have totally different dna and it never even matched us as distant relatives. Though she's my first cousin, and our father's were twins. However, it did match me with a woman who she and I have the same great great grandmother, on my Mom's side. It's just not that specific.

@151949 I don't know. If Maury can make a whole television career out of it, I'd say a website can probably do it too.

@akaburtonfan Think Sophia Petrillo from the Golden Girls. That was her mother and she is Sophia Junior but quickly getting the whole character down.
She can go ahead and make fun but she didn't answer the question. So when it comes back that I belong to the gypsies, I already warned her she's making the flight to see Judge Judy and I want my $5000.
Your mother sounds like me @Laura14. I'll answer DD, but I have to hit her with a whitty comeback first. Her ringtone for me was Elton Johns' "The B is Back". Some people freaked over that, but she and her friends loved it and so did I. Hated it when she changed it. ![]()

Thank you for the ringtone idea of The B Is Back. I can use this 😀

I'm adopted and knew nothing about my ethnicity or background so I did Ancestry. I found out I was 34% Great Britain, 26% Ireland/Scotland/Wales and 24% Scandinavia. I had lots of 2nd, 3rd, 4th cousin matches etc., but did have a single 1st cousin match. I sent 1 message through Ancestry's message system to that match, but never heard back so I won't contact them again. I'm not going to try to further contact any matches because, I'm ok with things as they are. But, I'm happy I now know where my ancesters are from and I'm glad I did it.
If you do Ancestry or 23&me, once you receive your results you can upload your DNA data to GEDmatch and Family Tree DNA at no charge and also see additional matches there.

Hello, everyone, I did a test two years ago for my sister's benefit--she is our family genealogist.
I was disappointed to find less Iberian peninsula than I wanted (my grandmother evidently wasn't fully Portuguese but maybe half).
Everything else--British Isles or N. Ireland and almost 20% Scandinavian (probably because of the Vikings, who named Dublin and collected tribute for a century or two). Due to world-travelling ancestors, I had hoped for a little more diversity. So for a year. . . nothing else.
Then I heard from a third cousin who was hunting down her true birth mother, and it was a sad, sad tale. I am glad now I took the test because through my sister's research, I was able to connect her to some info.
People call the old days the "good old days." Not for everyone, that's for certain.

It's how they analyze and group it that makes the difference. Your DNA is what it is. I did Ancestry and now I'm going to do 23andme---I expect differences.
Ancestry.com says this on their site: "Your DNA doesn't change, but the science we use to analyze it does. Your results may change over time as the science improves."
My sister-in-law had DNA run years ago when Ancestry first started doing it, and they recently updated hers with more/new info/detail.

@Laura14 This reunion post included our maiden name, married name, current address, phone numbers and emails. The committee didn't miss anything! It's out there for the whole world. So much for keeping my Facebook privacy settings how I preferred. Had nothing to do with FB in this case. An entire committee and not one person thought about the consequences. I didn't bother to comment about it. Figured they probably heard it all from the other 600 classmates. Nothing detrimental happened to me as a result. It was thoughtless and very stupid.
On the plus side: The committee put on a great 50th Class Reunion two years ago! We're also getting together in August for a mini (one evening) reunion. Retirement enables people to return for this stuff, I guess.
