Ask your primary physician...that should be the bottom line

I think a lot of the scheduling is based on need and availablilty

I have a cousin in the UK...they are getting their second shot 10 weeks after the first

UK policy is to vaccinate as many as possible with the first, then the second will be schediled.

I guess...JUST GET THE VACCINE is the policy..

@Mmsfoxxie - this is just my personal opinion, so keep that in mind!

I would get the 2nd vaccine when it was recommended - 21 days later, period, no sooner, a little later, ok.  I got my 2nd Pfizer on day 22 by choice. 

I personally think being loaded up like this, with 2 full doses is a lot anyway, which is certainly ok, I'm very glad to have the protection, but I personally did not want to get it any sooner and have that much vaccine in my system.  There is no medical reasoning on this, just my over thinking things!

Florida has just opened vaccine availability to all those age 60 and over with no restrictions as to health or occupation. Problem is there are still millions of us here who are in our 70's and 80's and have not yet been able to schedule our first shot. Everything has been open for a good while. It's all about bringing in tourist $ here. I will say that in my area of Tampa most people are being considerate and masking in stores, a good thing. I have been trying to book vaccine appt. for 90 year old neighbor and 79 year old hubby, but no luck. If you don't live in a 55+ retirement community where the vaccine is brought to your golf clubhouse for a photo op, booking appt. is difficult. The state pretends to be ahead of other states by opening appts to lower age groups, but unfortunately it has been done at the expense of those seniors in the upper age brackets.

The CDC says this as of March 3 2021:

"The second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines should be administered as close to the recommended interval as possible, but not earlier than recommended (i.e., 3 weeks [Pfizer-BioNTech] or 1 month [Moderna]). However, second doses administered within a grace period of 4 days earlier than the recommended date for the second dose are still considered valid.

If it is not feasible to adhere to the recommended interval and a delay in vaccination is unavoidable, the second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines may be administered up to 6 weeks (42 days) after the first dose. Currently, only limited data are available on efficacy of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines administered beyond this window."

my 92 yr old mom got her first pfizer shot last week and the online schedule her 2nd dose automatically 4 weeks later instead of 3 - i spoke to the pharmacist and they can't change it - the default is 4 weeks  - go figure

I had the same issue-just wait a week or so and go back on pharmacy site and it will have a spot to "edit your second" and you'll be able to move it up a week. At least I was at Walgreens.

Some of the doses may be near expiration dates and must be used. Four days is fine and stated in Pfizer/CDC guidelines.

Anyone here know anything about the J&J vaccine?

I believe it works in a different way, and would appreciate latest input, if any.

I have two doctors in the family. I asked about the Pfizer vaccine since DH is scheduled for 17 days after his first one. They both said there is definitely a few days grace period between the first and second doses for Pfizer  as well as Moderna. It doesn't effect the efficacy at all.

I received the J&J vaccine yesterday morning.  I am 56 and had absolutely no after effects.  I have an important colonoscopy scheduled this month and this seemed the right one for me.
